The inaugural season of the Delhi Premier League is set to kick off on August 17, 2024, promising to be a cricketing spectacle with 33 matches played between six teams at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium. The tournament will be a grand stage for local Delhi talent to shine alongside Indian international stars, and among the most exciting players to watch are the all-rounders. These versatile cricketers can change the game with both bat and ball, making them invaluable assets to their teams. Here are five all-rounders you should keep an eye on in the Delhi Premier League 2024.
Jonty Sidhu, at 26, is a promising all-rounder set to make waves for the Central Delhi Kings. While his T20 experience is limited—having played just one match against Puducherry in 2021 where he impressed with 21 runs off 12 balls and took two wickets—his first-class record speaks volumes. Jonty has amassed 1272 runs in 22 games at an impressive average of 45.42. Sidhu’s hunger to prove himself on a bigger stage makes him a player to watch out for.
Kshitiz Sharma is another seasoned campaigner in the Delhi Premier League, representing the North Delhi Strikers. The 34-year-old all-rounder has had a brush with the IPL, being picked by Chennai Super Kings in 2018, though he didn’t get a game that season. In T20s, Kshitiz has played 25 matches, scoring 385 runs, including three half-centuries, and has taken five wickets. With experience across formats—14 first-class and 22 List-A games—Kshitiz brings a wealth of experience that could prove vital for the North Delhi Strikers.
Lalit Yadav is a familiar name in the T20 circuit, and he will be a key player for Purani Dilli 6 in the Delhi Premier League. The 27-year-old all-rounder has represented Delhi Capitals in the IPL, where he played 27 matches, scoring 305 runs and picking up 10 wickets. With 82 T20s under his belt, Lalit has scored 1077 runs, including two fifties, and taken 53 wickets.
Young and talented, Hrithik Shokeen is a name that fans should definitely keep an eye on. Playing for the West Delhi Lions, the 23-year-old all-rounder has already had a taste of IPL action with the Mumbai Indians, featuring in 13 games across two seasons (2022 and 2023). Although his IPL stats—66 runs and five wickets—might not be groundbreaking, Hrithik has shown promise in first-class cricket with 386 runs and 30 wickets in 10 games.
Rounding off the list is Himmat Singh, who will be turning out for the East Delhi Riders. The 27-year-old was the vice-captain of Delhi in the 2023–24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and has been on the radar of IPL franchises, having been picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019. Though he didn’t get an IPL game, Himmat’s domestic record is impressive. In 47 T20s, he has scored 720 runs, and in 51 List-A games, he has an average of 50.57 with 1770 runs, including six centuries.
