Chandika Hathurusinghe has finally come to Bangladesh after putting an end to all speculations. He has already started work by stepping in Mirpur. Of course, this Sri Lankan coach is not new to the Tigers’ den. This time, Hathurusinghe has become the coach of Shakib Al Hasan in the second phase. After starting the work, he told the press conference about his work plan and his love for Bangladesh. He said that the performance of the team Bangladesh players will be evaluated for the success of the team.
Hathurusingha’s first assignment is going to be the England series at home. In three ODIs and T20 matches each, he is getting a chance to see the players. Tiger’s head coach said he will test the players by watching this series. As well as starting after the England series, plans are underway for the upcoming ODI World Cup on Indian soil. However, all the thoughts of the head coach of the Tigers are currently around the England series. He has also started the task of observing the students in practice.
In the press conference, Hathurusinghe said, “I will monitor the players in the England series. You can’t come here and suddenly think about the team. Everything has to go according to plan. I can’t say now where I can take the team in the upcoming ODI World Cup. But I believe that the senior cricketers will perform well. Their role and responsibility in the team is big.”
He was the coach till 2017 in the first phase. After that, Hathurusinghe left the responsibility of the Bangladesh team. However, even after resigning, he said that he has been in contact with Bangladeshi cricketers and cricket related people. In this context, Hathurusinghe said, “I used to keep track of Bangladesh cricket regularly. I used to talk to many people here. There is magic for Bangladesh. So I came again.”
However, Hathurusinghe is known as a strict headmaster in the Tiger Cricket neighborhood. He himself gave proof of that in the press conference. The head coach said, there will be nothing to say to the senior junior in the Bangladesh team. He mainly gives importance to performance. Be it senior or junior, the one who can play well and contribute to the team will be given a chance.
During Hathurusingha’s first term, there were rumors that he did not have a good relationship with the team’s senior cricketers. However, this coach laughed and dismissed the rumor in the second term. Hathurusingha claims that he has talked to everyone, he never had a bad relationship with the players. For now, all the attention of this Tigers coach is now on the England series. Let’s see how Hathurusingha’s disciples did in the first assignment.
