Cricket Prediction | EN vs NZ |1st ODI |Sep 8, 2023 - Who do you believe won the opening ODI?

England vs New Zealand Match Analysis

Following a very intriguing T20I series that concluded 2-2 on Tuesday night in Nottingham, England and New Zealand will play the first of four ODI cricket matches. This will be the teams’ first one-day international match since their illustrious World Cup Final in 2019. At 12:30 local time on Friday, the first ODI game in this series will begin at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Although England hasn’t played an ODI since early March of this year, they will now devote all of their attention to this format in preparation for the World Cup. With such a potent batting lineup, they will be challenging to beat as usual.

New Zealand battled back from a 2-0 deficit throughout the T20I series, displaying their tenacity and skill. Although they will be underdogs going into this series, do not assume that means they are not capable of competing.

England vs New Zealand Team Preview & Squads

England

Before confirming the 15-man squad for the competition, England should take advantage of this excellent opportunity to practice for the World Cup and test their players. One to keep an eye on is Gus Atkinson.

The quick bowler, who has yet to play in an ODI, impressed in the most recent T20Is, taking 6 wickets in 2 games. Another player to keep an eye out for in this group is Ben Stokes, who played his final ODI in July of 2022.

Stokes’ selection for the World Cup team has drawn some criticism, but he has been in excellent form in the longer version of the game and should use this series to silence his detractors.

Sam Curran and David Willey, two bowling all-rounders, will be essential in the bottom order and will try to take advantage of every opportunity to play in this series.

Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, and Liam Livingstone give England a powerful starting lineup for this series. Despite not being in the best of form, Dawid Malan is an important player in the middle order.

Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, and Adil Rashid will be the major players directing the bowling assault.

New Zealand

Following an amazing recovery in the T20Is, a confident New Zealand team will be ready for the England test. In the middle order for New Zealand, Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls are the players to keep an eye on.

Along with three batting all-rounders, NZ’s squad also includes Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, and other players. It will be interesting to see if they deploy all three in the starting XI.

Rachin Ravindra can bowl a few overs, but Mitchell Santner, who has consistently been a finisher in the lower order, is more likely to be chosen.

Daryl Mitchell will undoubtedly bat in the middle order and will be crucial to the team’s success. NZ would prefer to test Kyle Jamieson in this series despite the fact that he has only been in 8 ODIs but has excelled in Test matches.

Boult, Southee, and Ferguson, a bowling three, will direct the speed attack and are likely to play in the World Cup. Matt Henry, Jamieson, or Adam Milne will compete for the position of fourth bowler.

The team’s batting second won the last two ODIs at this location by a combined score of 9 wickets. Therefore, we anticipate that both captains, if they win the toss, will decide to field first.

The entirety of this game is expected to be played with temperatures in the mid-20s, and the humidity will increase throughout the contest.

We anticipate a par score of no more than 305 on this track, which offers opportunities for both pace and spin bowlers
