Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings (Match 13) – Highlights

After losing their first two matches of IPL 2024 of Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their first win in the third game that they’ve played. They defeated the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (March 31).

After winning the toss and batting first, DC set a target of 192 runs for CSK. In response, CSK could score 171 runs by losing six wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. The Capitals won by 20 runs. As a result, after winning two matches in a row, CSK lost in the third face-off.

Coming down to chase a big target, Super Kings stumbled at the beginning. They lost two wickets in the first three overs of the innings. Then Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell led the CSK camp. However, Axar Patel did not allow their pair to grow too big. He broke the partnership of 68 runs made by these two.

DC returned to the match after dismissing Mitchell for 34 runs. After two overs, Rahane returned to the dressing room from the verge of fifties. He was dismissed for 45 off 30 balls by Mukesh Kumar. After that, Shivam Dube and Sameer Rizvi quickly returned to the pavilion and defeat looked inevitable.

However, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni started dreaming of winning the game for the Super Kings. But they could not save the team in the end. CSK scored 171 runs by losing six wickets thanks to Jadeja’s 21 runs from 17 balls and Dhoni’s 37 runs from 16 balls. As a result, DC won by 20 runs.

Mukesh Kumar took the maximum number of 3 wickets for Delhi Capitals. Apart from this, Khaleel Ahmed took two wickets and Axar Patel took one wicket.

Earlier, DC’s two openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner got off to a great start coming down to bat first. They picked up 62 runs in 6 overs of power play. 93 runs came from the bat of both. Mustafizur Rahman, the purple cap holder of the current edition of IPL, got the chance to bowl for the first time in the sixth over. Prithvi and Warner combined to hit Mustafiz for 4 fours in that over. 20 runs came in that over.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad temporarily removed Mustafiz from the attack. Mustafiz returned with the ball in the tenth over. He dismissed Warner with only 4 runs in that over in a great comeback. Warner, who scored 52 off 35 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes, looked to hit a four through third man. But Matheesha Pathirana made him back to the dressing room with a brilliant catch.

Prithvi departed in the next over of Warner’s departure. He scored 43 off 27 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes before being caught by Dhoni off Jadeja.

DC completed 100 runs in the third ball of the 11th over. But then they were knocked out of the match by Pathirana. He bowled Mitchell Marsh who scored 18 off 12 balls. He also dismissed Tristan Stubbs in the last ball of the same over. At this time, DC’s run speed decreased a bit.

In the end, captain Rishabh Pant raised a storm. In the 18th over, he hit Mustafiz for a six and four. He hit Pathirana for 2 fours and 1 six in the next over. But he got out in that over. Before that, however, Pant scored 51 runs in 32 balls smashing 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Pathirana snapped up the highest number of three wickets for CSK. Mustafiz and Jadeja also got one wicket each.
