Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Virat Kohli scored the slowest century in IPL history on Saturday (April 6). But his innings of 113 runs came in vain to Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler’s century.
Rajasthan won by 6 wickets against Bangalore’s target of 184 runs for 4 wickets. Buttler completed the century with the first ball of the 20th over and the team won. This is Rajasthan’s fourth consecutive win in this IPL in four matches, they also occupy the top of the table with 8 points. Where Bengaluru lost the third match in a row.
Chasing the target, Yashasvi Jaiswal departed before scoring any runs. India’s budding batsman caught by Glenn Maxwell off Reece Topley’s over. After that, Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler knocked Bengaluru out of the match by forming a long pair. They played coolly and made a pair of 148 runs.
The pair broke when Yash Dayal caught Samson off Mohammad Siraj. The Captain scored 69 runs off 42 balls. His innings had 8 fours and 2 sixes. Bengaluru looked to get back into the match after quick dismissals of Ryan Parag and Dhruv Jurel. But Rajasthan won with 5 balls left on the bat of set batter Butler and Shimron Hetmyer.
Rajasthan needed 1 run to win in the last over, Buttler needed 6 for a century. The English batsman hit a six off the first ball of Cameron Green’s over and won the match. It is his sixth century in 99 innings in IPL. Kohli scored 8 centuries in 234 innings. Buttler has the same number of centuries as Chris Gayle. Topley took 2 wickets for Bengaluru. Yash Dayal and Siraj took one wicket each.
Earlier, Bangalore scored 183 runs. Virat Kohli’s bat is not stopping in the current season of IPL. He got the orange cap for the highest run-scorer in the first two matches. This time he got a century. Royal Challengers Bangalore got a big collection against Rajasthan Royals with an impeccable century from the Indian star.
After losing the toss and batting first, Bangalore got off to a good start with Virat Kohli and Du Plessis. The two added 125 runs for the first wicket. However, despite not losing a wicket, the runs did not progress very quickly. The team scored 125 runs in 14 overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal returned Plessis who scored 44 runs. After that, the pace of the run decreased further. Glenn Maxwell’s quick delivery failed to produce any results. Maxi returned with 1 run after playing 3 balls.
Chahal also returned Saurabh Chauhan who scored 9 runs. He topped Mustafizur Rahman to become the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. Chahal now has 8 wickets in the tournament, Mustafiz has 7.
Sourav Chauhan has scored a total of 9 runs. After his exit, Cameron Green came down but he could not do anything with the bat. 5 runs from 6 balls came from Green’s bat. Kohli alone pulled the team. Bengaluru collected 183 runs in his fighting innings.
Kohli scored a 67-ball century in the opening. At the end of the innings, the star batsman scored 113 runs from 72 balls with 12 fours and 4 sixes.
