Cricket Highlights, 07 May: IPL 2023 (Match 50) – Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (Match 50) – Highlights

A win would have pushed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to third place in the points table. In that case, the possibility of securing a place in the playoffs would have increased a lot. But Philip Salt raised a storm in their home. With four wins in the last five matches, Delhi Capitals (DC) kept the dream of the playoffs alive.

The host Capitals defeated the Royal Challengers with 20 balls remaining in the game and by 7 wickets in their field on Saturday (May 6). Earlier in this match, RCB collected 181 runs by losing 4 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs depending on the batting skills of Virat Kohli, Mahipal Lomror, and Faf du Plessis. In reply, DC reached the port of victory in 16.4 overs due to Philip Salt’s rampage.

But in this match, Kohli has made an excellent record. He is the first batsman in IPL history to reach the milestone of 7000 runs. Kohli came to the field from just 12 runs behind that feat and achieved this unique accomplishment in the second over of the match. Later he picked up the sixth fifty of this year’s IPL. He surpassed Devon Conway and teammate Faf du Plessis (both have five fifties each).

After winning the toss and batting first, the opening pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis brought up 82 runs in 10.2 overs for RCB. RCB skipper du Plessis got out after scoring 45 off 32 balls by Mitchell Marsh. He played this innings with 5 fours and 1 six. The very next ball, Marsh sent back his countryman, Glenn Maxwell to the dugout.

Mahipal and Kohli added another 55 runs in the third-wicket partnership. Kohli became the victim of Mukesh Kumar by scoring 55 runs in 46 balls with 5 fours. Mahipal made the biggest contribution to RCB’s challenging collection. He scored an unbeaten 54 off 29 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from this, Dinesh Karthik scored 11 from 9 balls and Anuj Rawat remained unbeaten scoring 8 from 3 balls.

Mitchell Marsh took the maximum number of 2 wickets with 21 runs in 3 overs for DC. Besides, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed took 1 wicket each.

In response, Philip Salt and David Warner made a pair of 60 runs in just 5 overs. Warner was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood on the first ball of the sixth over. The DC captain scored 22 runs off 14 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. It might be surprising to know that this six was Warner’s first six in this edition of the tournament.

In the second wicket partnership, Salt and Marsh added another 59 runs off 32 balls. Marsh scored 26 off 17 balls before being dismissed by Harshal Patel. However, Salt played the biggest role in DC’s winning that day. He played a devastating innings of 87 runs off just 45 balls. The wicket-keeper batsman hit 8 fours and 6 sixes before being bowled by Karn Sharma.

After Salt’s departure, Rilee Rossouw picked up the required run conjugating with Axar Patel. Rossouw remained unbeaten with 35 runs off 22 balls, he scored 1 four and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Axar played an unbeaten innings of 8 runs off 3 balls. Josh Hazlewood, Karn Sharma, and Harshal Patel got 1 wicket each for RCB.

With this loss, Royal Challengers lost the chance to climb up to third place in the points table. Du Plessis’s team is in fifth place in the standings with 5 wins playing 10 matches. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals is now in the 9th position with 8 points playing the same number of matches.
