In the 56th match of the season, the whole match was swinging like a pendulum. Sometimes Delhi Capitals went ahead in the fight, and sometimes Rajasthan Royals. But Rishabh Pant’s team had the last laugh. They defeated Rajasthan in the last over fight to stay in the playoff fight.
Delhi beat Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday (May 7). Where Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan stopped at 201 runs against Rishabh’s target of 222 runs.
This victory of Delhi has accumulated the battle of the IPL playoffs. Delhi took a step forward by beating Rajasthan Royals, the second-placed team in the table. They have 12 points in 12 matches. Rajasthan lost the wicket of Jaiswal in the first over to chase the big target given by Delhi. However, Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler batted well under the pressure. The duo put on a 63-run partnership for the second wicket. But Buttler was dismissed for 19 off 17 balls by Axar Patel.
Ryan Parag got off to a good start but couldn’t capitalize. He was dismissed by Rasikh Salam after scoring 27 runs off 22 balls. However, Delhi took control of the match in the fourth wicket pair. Samson made a partnership of 59 runs from 28 balls with Shubham Dubey. But after that, the rhythm of Rajasthan fell.
Samson scored 86 runs off 46 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes and got out after being caught on the boundary by Mukesh Kumar. Then, Dubey returned in the next over. This young batsman scored 25 runs off 12 balls.
Rajasthan needed 41 runs in the last 3 overs. With devastating batters like Rovman Powell and Donovan Ferreira, that was not impossible. However, due to Kuldeep Yadav’s spin and Mukesh Kumar’s controlled bowling, Rajasthan could not get close to the target.
Earlier, Delhi scored 221 runs with the excellent batting of Jack Fraser McGurk, Abhishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs. McGurk scored 50 runs in 20 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes while keeping his great form. 65 runs off 36 balls from Porel’s bat with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Besides, Stubbs scored 41 runs off 20 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours.
