Krunal Pandya’s all-around performance helped Lucknow Super Giants to secure their second win of the tournament. First, he snapped up 3 wickets with the ball and later scored 34 runs with the bat to get selected as the player of the match.
Chasing the target of 122 runs set by Sunrisers Hyderabad yesterday at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cricket stadium in Lucknow, KL Rahul’s team reached the port of victory with 24 balls in hand after losing 5 wickets. Along with this, the Sunrisers have been got defeated in two consecutive matches.
Chasing an easy target of 122 runs, captain Rahul and Kyle Mayers got off to a good start. The duo put up an opening partnership of 35 runs off 27 balls. Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was with the team yesterday but did not get a chance in the XI due to Mayers having a great time on the field.
However, the Caribbean all-rounder could not make the innings big yesterday. He was dismissed for 13 runs off 14 balls by Sunrisers’ impact cricketer Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Deepak Hooda (7) who came to the crease at number three. However, the Super Giants scored 45 runs in the power play. Krunal and Rahul’s partnership of 55 runs from 38 balls ensured the victory for the Super Giants. Krunal and Rahul then got out, but the Super Giants had no trouble getting the victory.
Rahul scored 35 runs off 31 balls with the help of 4 boundaries. On the other hand, Krunal scored 34 runs off 23 balls hitting 4 fours and 1 six. In the end, Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten on 10, and wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran scored 11.
Adil Rashid took the maximum number of 2 wickets for the Sunrisers. Besides, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Umran Malik took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, the Sunrisers got a bit of a fighting capitals thanks to Abdul Samad’s 21-run innings from 10 balls. After winning the toss and batting first, Aiden Markram’s team was able to score 121 runs.
The Sunrisers’ batsmen were under pressure from the start when they came to bat against the Super Giants. Krunal Pandya sent back Mayank Agarwal (8) for the team’s 21 runs. Then another opener Anmolpreet Singh and skipper Markram were also dismissed by this left-arm spinner.
Anmolpreet scored the 2nd highest 31 runs for the team. His 26-ball innings had 3 fours and 1 six. However, Markaram could not open the account of runs. He was bowled by Krunal on the first ball as he came down to the wicket.
Harry Brook has failed in two consecutive matches in IPL. In both matches, he got back with the deliveries of the leg spinners. In the first match, while trying to play a cut shot off Yuzvendra Chahal’s flipper, he got out making 13 runs off 21 balls. Yesterday, Brook got out with a wrong’un delivery by Ravi Bishnoi after scoring just 3 runs off 4 balls.
After that, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tripathi tried to form a pair but could not improve the run wheel much. The two made a partnership of 39 runs off 50 balls. Tripathi played the highest innings of 35 runs off 41 balls for the team. Washington scored 16 off 28 balls. Finally, in the last over of the innings, Samad hit 2 sixes off Jaydev Unadkat and the score of the Sunrisers reached at 121.
Apart from Krunal, Amit Mishra took 2 wickets and Ravi Bishnoi and Yash Thakur took 1 wicket each for the Super Giants. Amit Mishra’s total wickets in IPL are now 168. Where this leg spinner is fourth in the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL.
