Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians (Match 60) – Highlights

Rajasthan Royals lost two consecutive matches. As a result, flying Kolkata had an opportunity to climb to the top of the points table. However, because of the torrential rain, the game could not start on time. The match started after the rain but by then the length of the match was reduced to 4 overs. Then, after losing two openers early on, Kolkata got off to a bad start but got a good collection in the end. However, the real work was done by the bowlers.

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in a rain-hit match at Eden Gardens on Saturday (May 11). In the 16th over, Kolkata, who batted first, collected 157 runs, losing 7 wickets. In response, Mumbai scored 139 runs by losing 8 wickets in the scheduled over.

In this victory, Shreyas Iyer’s team reached the top after putting behind Rajasthan Royals with 18 points in 12 matches. Along with that, Kolkata’s place in the play-offs has been confirmed.

Earlier in the day, Kolkata lost the wickets of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine when they came out to bat. Salt scored 6 runs, but Narine got out on the first ball. The Caribbean all-rounder has created a new record in T20 by hitting a duck. Narine now holds the record for the highest number of dismissals by getting out for no runs, 44 times. He surpassed the English opener Alex Hales who scored 43 innings.

Kolkata also lost the wicket of captain Shreyas Iyer in the first ball of the fifth over despite keeping the run rate above 10. He scored 7 runs off 10 balls. However, Venkatesh Iyer maintained his aggressive batting. He scored 42 runs off 21 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes before being dismissed in the first ball of the ninth over.

Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh also batted brilliantly. Nitish’s 23-ball 33, Russell’s 14-ball 24 and Rinku’s 20-run innings helped Kolkata maintain the run rate.

In the end, Ramandeep Singh stormed. In his 8-ball 17-run innings, Kolkata got a fighting collection.

For Mumbai, Bumrah took 2 wickets with 39 runs in 4 overs. Piyush Chawla also took 2 wickets with 28 runs in 3 overs. Besides, Nuwan Thushara and Anshul Kamboj took 1 wicket each.

In reply, Ishan Kishan gave Mumbai a great start. Rohit added 65 runs in partnership with Sharma. Ishan became Narine’s victim on the fifth ball of the seventh over. Before that, he scored 40 runs off 22 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Rohit was not in the best rhythm that day. In the next over, Varun Chakraborty ended his struggle. Rohit scored only 19 runs off 24 balls.

Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals in front of Kolkata’s bowling cannon. Suryakumar scored 11 off 14 balls, captain Hardik Pandya scored 2 runs off 4 balls. Besides, Tim David could not open the run book.

Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir tried. But by then it was too late. Both were sent back by Harshit Rana in the last over. Dhir scored 17 runs in 6 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. Varma scored 32 runs off 17 balls with 5 fours and 1 six.

Varun Chakraborty bowled well for Kolkata. He took 2 wickets with only 17 runs in 4 overs. Harshit Rana and Andre Russell also took 2 wickets each. Narine hunted the remaining wicket.
