PS-W vs MR-W (11th Match) – Highlights In this article, we will discuss the 11th match of the Women’s Big Bash League between Perth
Sunrisers Hyderabad, who batted brilliantly throughout the season, could not stand with the bat in the final match. Pat Cummins’ team had the same picture in bowling too. Consequently, Cummins-Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to be spectators against the stormy batting of Venkatesh Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. As a result, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Hyderabad to win the IPL title for the third time.
Kolkata beat Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final of the 17th edition of the IPL at the Chepuk Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (May 26). This time, Shreyas Iyer’s team won with 57 balls to bat after the target of 114 runs given by Hyderabad.
This is Kolkata’s third title in the IPL. Earlier, the team won the championship in 2012 and 2014. The Kolkata franchise won the title after 10 years.
Kolkata initially stumbled a bit in chasing the modest target set by Hyderabad. Sunil Narine, who batted brilliantly throughout the tournament, returned to the dressing room with 11 runs for the team. However, there was no pressure on Kolkata. Venkatesh Iyer batted devastatingly for at three, where Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave him good company.
Gurbaz-Venkatesh combined for 91 runs for the second wicket. That’s how Kolkata got the basis of victory. Gurbaz scored 39 runs off 32 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes and was dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed. Kolkata were then just 12 runs away from victory. Then, Iyer and Venkatesh led the team to victory by batting with a cool head.
Shreyas scored 6 runs off 3 balls. Venkatesh played a stormy innings. This batsman scored 52 runs off 26 balls with 3 sixes and 4 fours.
Earlier, Hyderabad won the toss and batted as expected. But the team’s top order failed in front of the strong bowling line of Kolkata Knight Riders. Returning to the rhythm at the end of the season, Mitchell Starc showed his power with the ball at the beginning of the match. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora also accompany him well.
Starc started Hyderabad’s downfall. Abhishek Sharma, who was in great form, was bowled by this pacer in the first over. In the second over, Travis Head returned after being caught by Vaibhav Arora.
Rahul Tripathi, who batted stormily in the previous match, could not benefit from the bat on this day. He returned with 9 runs off 13 balls after being dismissed by Starc. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Aiden Markram made a partnership of 26 runs for the fourth wicket. However, Harshit Rana broke the pair and pushed Hyderabad on the backfoot again.
Markram also could not catch the lead of the team. He was dismissed by Andre Russell after scoring 20 runs off 23 balls for the team’s 62 runs. Varun Chakraborty dismissed Shahbaz Ahmed in the next over.
After Shahbaz got out, Abdul Samad batted as an impact cricketer. But he too could not make any impact. He got out with a catch to Gurbaz off Russell after scoring only 4 runs. Even Heinrich Klaasen could not make a difference on a day of batting failure. Harshit scored 16 runs off 17 balls and was bowled by Rana.
Captain Cummins scored 24 runs off 19 balls in the end for the team that lost 8 wickets for 90 runs. This is Hyderabad’s highest individual run in last days innings. But in the end, he could not survive. In the third ball of the 19th over, Cummins was caught on the boundary while hitting Russell over long on for a six. His team stopped at 113 runs.
Starc, who was out of form at the start of the IPL, made a spectacular comeback towards the end. He bowled astoundingly in the final. He took 2 wickets with 14 runs after bowling 3 overs. Harshit Rana also took 2 wickets. Russell took 3 wickets by bowling 2.3 overs.
