Rahul Chahar took 1 wicket at the cost of 33 runs with great bowling on a day when the opponent’s batsmen beat his teammates. Besides, Arshdeep Singh’s maximum 2 wickets cost 45 runs.
Kolkata’s two openers Salt and Narine attacked Punjab’s bowlers from the start. They brought the team to the hundred in 8 overs after smashing Karan-Arshdeep. Narine hit fifty in 23 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. This is his second fifty in the current season. There is also a century innings of him. Meanwhile, Salt hit fifty off 25 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes.
In the end, Rahul Chahar broke their 138-run partnership in the eleventh over. Narine was caught by Jonny Bairstow while picking up the spinner at long-on. His innings stopped at 71 with 9 fours and 4 sixes off 32 balls. Salt also took the path to the dressing room after an overbreak. He got out after scoring 75 runs off 37 balls with 6 sixes and 4 fours.
After that, Andre Russell-Shreyas Iyer kept the continuity at the crease. Venkatesh Iyer scored 39 from 23 balls, Russell scored 24 from 12 balls and Shreyas scored 28 from 10 balls. Kolkata got a collection of 250 out of it.
It is the highest team collection record at Eden. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings 235 against the hosts in the last season of IPL was the highest by any team at Eden.
Captain Sam Curran was the most important player for Punjab on this day. He bowled 4 overs and took 1 wicket at the cost of 60 runs.
Meanwhile, chasing a target of 262 runs, Punjab opener Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed for 54 runs off 20 balls. But another opener Jonny Bairstow remained unbeaten in the end with 108 runs from 48 balls. 8 fours and 9 sixes came from his innings. Punjab batsman Rilee Rossouw was dismissed for 26 runs but Shashank Singh left the field with Bairstow after scoring 68 runs off 28 balls with the expected victory. They left the field with 8 balls to spend.
