Mumbai Indians set a target of just 145 runs to Lucknow in a run-scoring IPL. However, Lucknow had to play up to 20 overs to chase that run. But Lokesh Rahul’s team had the last laugh. Jasprit Bumrah-Hardik Pandya took the fight to the end, but Lucknow left the field with a victory in Marcus Stoinis’ fifty.
The hosts beat Mumbai by 4 wickets at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow. Batting at the beginning, Mumbai scored 144 runs in the allotted 20 overs. In response, Lucknow reached the port of victory with 4 balls in hand.
With this win, Lucknow has moved up to third in the points table by topping Chennai Super Kings. The team won 6 out of 10 matches and earned 12 points. Rajasthan Royals, who are at the top of the points table, are 4 points ahead of Lucknow after playing 1 match less. On the other hand, Mumbai has won three out of 10 matches and is ninth in the table with 6 points. The team has no chance in the race to reach the playoffs of the tournament.
Chasing the target, Lucknow lost the wicket of Arshin Kulkarni in the first over. However, Rahul’s team advanced in the fight with a pair of 58 runs in the second wicket. Rahul returned with 28 runs off Hardik Pandya. Then, Stoinis took the lead in the next wicket as well and added another 40 runs with Deepak Hooda.
After that, Stoinis was dismissed in quick time after Hooda’s departure. In the end, Lucknow was under some pressure. Bumrah increased the pressure with just 1 run in the 17th over. When Lucknow needed 22 runs in 3 overs, Ashton Turner returned with a bowled out. In the next over, Ayush Badoni returned with an unfortunate run out.
But Nicholas Pooran did not allow the danger to grow. He led the team to victory with responsible batting. Stoinis scored 62 runs in 45 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes and Pooran played an important innings of 14 runs off 14 balls.
Earlier, Mumbai lost 4 wickets for 27 runs under the influence of Lucknow bowlers. In the end, Pandya’s team capitalized on the batting of Nehal Wadhera and Tim David. Nehal scored 46 runs off 41 balls and David was unbeaten in the end with 35 runs off 18 balls.
