Gurbaz was finally dismissed at this stage, caught by Reeza Hendricks off Andile Phehlukwayo, after carrying the team for much of the innings.
A late blitz from AM Ghazanfar, who hit an unbeaten 31 off just 15 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes, helped Afghanistan push the score to 169. South Africa’s bowlers were effective, with Lungi Ngidi and Nqabayomzi Peter taking 2 wickets each, while Andile Phehlukwayo also chipped in with 2 wickets.
In their chase of 170, South Africa cruised to victory in 33 overs, finishing at 170/3 to win by 7 wickets. Captain Temba Bavuma (22 off 28) and Tony de Zorzi (26 off 31) kicked things off with a steady 40-run partnership before Bavuma got the boot from AM Ghazanfar’s bowling. De Zorzi soon followed, courtesy of an lbw from Mohammad Nabi, leaving the Proteas well on their way to victory without breaking a sweat.
Reeza Hendricks (18 off 31) fell to Fareed Ahmad, leaving SA wobbling at 80/3. Enter Aiden Markram, who played the anchor role like a seasoned pro, cruising to an unbeaten 69 off 67 balls, complete with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Tristan Stubbs backed him up with a cool 26* off 42, as the duo steered the ship to victory without needing to raise the sails!
