Several complaints were raised against Indian cricket. IPS officer Neeraj Kumar made multiple allegations of match-fixing, cheating and sexual harassment in the name of giving opportunities to the team in exchange for money. He recently made these allegations in his autobiography. After the publication of his autobiography, there has been an uproar in Indian cricket. Discussion and criticism on the matter is going on.
Neeraj Kumar wrote in his autobiography, “I was associated with Indian cricket for a few years. After spending time with them, I realized that match-fixing is only the tip of the iceberg of corruption. Because the administrators of the state bodies and other officials were involved in much bigger corruption. For them, this match-fixing is a small complaint.”
In his autobiography, Neeraj also claims, “There used to be transactions of money between cricket administrators and budding cricketers. Allegations of extorting money by promising to give a chance to the team were a daily occurrence. We used to get complaints from the family of the cricketer promising to give a chance to the Ranji team or the IPL. An administrator or a coach snatched millions. But since then he or they have not been traced.”
Citing the example of the Jammu-Kashmir Cricket Association, Neeraj wrote, “BCCI gives a large portion of the money it earns to the state crickets. But the state crickets do not use this money properly. In 2015, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association was investigated by the CBI. It was alleged that they did not use the money given by the BCCI properly.”
It should be noted that Neeraj Kumar was the head of the ‘Anti-Corruption Branch’ of the Indian Cricket Board from 2015 to 2018. And from this experience, he raised one complaint after another in Indian cricket. He made these allegations in his autobiography. However, this IPS officer did not make any complaint against the Indian Cricket Board. He complained about the state cricket bodies.
