Australia’s batsman will not play the reverse sweep because of his wife’s prohibition?

After the failure of Australia’s batsmen in the Nagpur Test, they were heavily criticized. They could not stand in front of the Indian bowlers. This time Australian batsman Alex Carey is getting new criticism. The criticism is mainly about his shot selection. Carey has made it clear that he will not play that shot because his wife forbids it. And for making such comments, this Australian batter is being criticized.

In the Nagpur Test, Carey’s dismissals were similar in both innings. He returned to the dressing room twice with reverse sweep. And this is seen by cricket experts as unexpected. According to many, he came out as irresponsible. However, this Australian wicketkeeper batsman gave a different explanation. Whether this shot brings him success or not, he will be off playing it for a while. He said that his wife forbade him to play this shot.

In the interview, Carey said, “I failed with the reverse sweep. I played this shot in both innings and got out. In the first innings I didn’t execute it properly, and in the second innings I did something different and got out. In the second innings disaster I wanted to play a little bit different from the others. And this shot (reverse sweep) will sometimes make you successful, sometimes it will make you fail. As it happened to me.”

Carey added, “You can never say it’s always going to give you success. So you have to find a balance between the two. My wife doesn’t like this shot at all. She has told me not to play it many times. And this time maybe I’ll listen to him, I won’t play this shot for a few days.”

It should be noted that Carey got runs in the first innings of the Nagpur Test. Even then, he played this reverse sweep shot. He also hit two boundaries with a reverse sweep. Early on, his batting was also quite aggressive. He made 36 off 33 balls. But then he was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin.

It should be noted that in the first Test against India, Carey’s Australia lost by an innings. Where Australia was all out for only 91 runs in the second innings. Carey himself was unsuccessful in batting. However, Carey expects his team to turn around in the second Test. Time will tell if Carey succeeds in avoiding the reverse sweep as he is saying.
