Broad considers himself lucky despite being ruled out of the team

England completes all arts of failures in last year’s Ashes. They lost the series 4-0 to Australia. After that, the England Cricket Board (ECB) prepared the entire Test team. Brendon McCullum was appointed as the head coach, with Ben Stokes at the lead. But before that, Steward Broad was dismissed. However, this pacer thinks that he has been benefited from it.

Although Broad took the most wickets for England in that Ashes, 13. But even that did not save him from dismissal. He was dropped from the squad for the West series by the then ECB selection panel. However, he did not have to stay out of the national team for long. After Stokes and McCullum took charge, the star English pacer was brought back into the national team.

Despite being left out of the West Indies series, Broad feels it has been good for his career. If he had been in the team at that time, he also thinks that he could not have reached this stage now. In this context, Broad said, “That decision of the selectors (about the West Indies series) saved my career. Had I been in the team for that series, I might not be at this stage today.”

After that loss, Broad said he changed himself. The English pacer added, “I felt lucky because the selectors dropped me. Although no player wants to miss a game. But not being in that series, it was good for me. I changed my mindset. A few weeks after the drop I found myself completely changed.”

However, with Stokes at the helm, England are having the best time in Tests so far. Broad joined the team after Stokes became captain. Since then, he did not have to look back. Paired with another experienced pacer James Anderson, Broad is doing the work of twisting the batting line-up of the opposition. His name is also high on the list of greatest wicket-takers in England’s Test history.
