The rights were bought by Viacom Eighteen. Women’s IPL broadcasting rights were sold for thousands of rupees. The matter is known, according to a source of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI).
Viacom and BCCI have signed a deal for a total of five seasons of the Women’s IPL from 2023 to 2027. To telecast the women’s IPL for these five years, Viacom will have to spend around Rs 951 crore. Which equals to Bangladeshi Taka, about 1210 crore 13 lakh Taka. Accordingly, the value of each match of women’s IPL will be more than 7 crore rupees.
However, several companies have shown interest in buying the broadcast rights of the Women’s IPL. Among them are – Disney Star, Sony, Zee and Viacom. But in the end, Viacom got the right leaving everyone behind. They have the television and digital broadcasting rights for the next five years. This huge amount of money is expected to add a new dimension to women’s cricket.
In this regard, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah tweeted, “Congratulations to Viacom for buying the broadcast rights of Women’s IPL. They have faith in BCCI. They said they will give BCCI 951 crore rupees by broadcasting the game in these five years. Accordingly, the price of each match is going to be 7 crores. It is undoubtedly a huge achievement for women’s cricket.”
Meanwhile, although the final schedule has not yet been announced, it is believed that the women’s IPL will be held between March 3 and April 26. Several influential IPL franchises have already become interested in taking teams there. Among them are big names like Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai. However, the BCCI has not revealed the names of the six participating teams so far.
Meanwhile, there has already been a response in the cricket community based on this tournament. The cricketers also believe that women’s cricket will go further through this tournament. India has a large market for cricket due to its large population. Until now, this market belonged to Rohit-Kohli. It is believed that the Indian Cricket Board will have a big impact on women’s cricket.
