Let’s be honest—when the SunRisers Hyderabad walk into Chepauk, nobody is putting their house on them. Until now. In a tight IPL 2025 match-up, SRH slayed their Chepauk demons, beating the Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in Match 43 and getting themselves some much-needed points on the board. The match was more than just a turning point for SRH’s season, it was a treasure trove of milestones and records. This was magic in the IPL, from first-ball wickets to one of the greatest bowling performances ever. Here are five milestones that made this match spectacular.
SRH’s First-Ever Win at Chepauk
That’s right, after five terrible losses in the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Hyderabad has finally found a way to win. Chasing down 155, SRH absorbed some early body blows but settled down with a gutsy 44 from Ishan Kishan and some calm finishing from Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Reddy. The whole eight-ball margin of victory may not sound exciting in text, but if you have seen the most recent six matches by SRH at Chepauk, then you will know this is as close to miraculous as it gets. That one win in six attempts feels like hundreds when taken off a long-lasting curse.
Harshal Patel’s Historic Fifth Four-Wicket Haul
Harshal Patel is that guy. The person who continues to work when no one is looking. While most fans are watching a bunch of colourful batters, Harshal worked whole-heartily to be a part of the history books. His 4/28 against CSK that we got to see on Sunday is special because it was Harshal’s fifth four-wicket haul in IPL history, all-time most for any pacer. Just think about that. He is now above Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Lasith Malinga, and every other great name you can think of. Harshal is not just taking wickets, he is building something here.
Mohammad Shami Strikes First… Again
It is always thrilling when Mohammad Shami opens an innings with flair. In the first delivery of this match, he did it again by getting Shaik Rasheed out for a duck. It was not only a wicket early in the first session. No one else has done that four times, including the likes of legends such as Jacques Kallis and KL Rahul, among others. Now you can add Rasheed to that exclusive group, and you know when Shami has the new ball, your top order needs to be fully switched on.
CSK’s Young Guns Take Center Stage
Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed’s opening partnership may not have set the world on fire on the day, but they should be proud of a historical achievement. They are now the second youngest opening pair in IPL history at a combined age of 38 years and 131 days, behind Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (37 years & 135 days). Not the most spectacular, but part of the beauty of occasions like this is teams supporting different (and new) faces.
SRH Bowl Out CSK for the First Time
CSK usually finds a way to bat all 20 overs, even if it is slow and painful to watch. Not this time, though. SRH bowled them out for 154 in 19.5 overs—the first time that they have ever bowled CSK out in IPL history! Let that sink in. From Shami’s early blow to Harshal’s demolition in the death overs, SRH executed their bowling plan nearly to perfection. Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat chipped in with two wickets apiece, and Kamindu Mendis contributed to the carnage as well. It was not just good bowling; it was smart, measured, and clinical.
So here’s the real question– if SRH can do that at Chepauk, what else do they have to show us this season? Let’s chat.
