Finally, Bavuma got a team in the SA T-20 league

South Africa’s franchise-based T20 league, though the country’s captain did not get a team. Strange as it may seem, this is what happens in the SAT20 league auction. No team has shown interest in buying Temba Bavuma even with a base price of just $48,000. At that time, he was heavily discussed and criticized. Finally overcoming all criticism, Bavuma got a team in this league.

Midway through the tournament, Bavuma was picked up by Sunrisers Eastern Cap. The franchise took him to the team mainly after seeing the recent performance of the national team. Another reason behind the opening of Bavuma’schances is Tom Abel’s inability to play. This England batsman has to leave the SAT20 because of getting a chance in the national team. Sunrisers considered Bavuma as his replacement.

Meanwhile, Bavuma batted impressively in the ODI series against England. The Protea captain scored a total of 180 runs from three matches. His run is the highest in the series. But the most positive thing is that Bavuma has batted with a strike rate of over 100 in every match. He has also hit four-sixes in this series. After that he got a team in this league.

Even though he did not get a team in his country’s league for a long time, Bavuma did not break down. Rather, he has become more focused on his own game. After his country won the series against England, he said, “Actually, I wouldn’t have celebrated like this. But I tried to answer the critics. I wanted to let them know, I’m not done yet. I can still perform.”

Time will tell how Bavuma will perform given the opportunity midway through the tournament. But looking at his T20 stats in recent times, there is no hope. This South African failed miserably in the last Twenty20 World Cup as well. But format aside, his bat is currently smiling. As such, he can also shine in the Sunrisers jersey.
