Earlier, Hathurusinghe served as the coach of the Bangladesh national team from 2014 to 2017. After that, he went on a tour to South Africa and did not return from there. He left the job. After that, Russell Domingo was appointed as the head coach of the Tigers. Domingo resigned last December. And then BCB handed over the responsibility of the team to Hathurusingha.
