India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011. Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave the taste of winning the title on its own soil. Another ODI World Cup on Indian soil after exactly a century, but now India is led by Rohit Sharma. Although the World Cup is still a few months away. But Sourav Ganguly wants Rohit as the captain in the World Cup as well.
Of course, before a big event like the World Cup, the sudden change of captain is not rare. Sourav advised the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) earlier. According to the former board president, India is currently in good form under Rohit’s leadership. If this rhythm can be maintained, good things are possible in the World Cup. Sourav suggested maintaining the process, instead of taking a sudden decision. The former captain of Team India said so in an interview recently.
Sourav said, “India can never be a weak team. The current team is also very strong. The Indian team is made up of the best players in the country. So, I would like this team to play in the upcoming ODI World Cup. I hope India’s selector and head coach Rahul Dravid will go to the World Cup with the team. It is better to keep Rohit as the captain in this World Cup. There is a great balance in the team. If this team gives their full potential now, surely something good is possible.”
India has not seen the ICC title for a long time. Sourav also said the mantra to break the title drought at home. The former captain also said, “The current Indian team has the ability to win the World Cup. But they have to be calm on the field. Everyone has to play the best cricket from their respective places with a cool head. Rohit’s team has multiple match-winners. If India can play according to their ability, then definitely can win the title.”
It should be noted that BCCI has also made a long plan for this World Cup at home. They want to keep the cricketer’s injury free and enter the World Cup with the best team. The rhythm of the Indian team since the beginning of the year has also raised hopes. Rohit has won the series by defeating Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the two ODI series at home. The current performance of the Indian cricketers with the bat-ball is also eye-catching. Many cricket analysts think that Rohits will win the World Cup in India.
