India’s journey in the USA leg of the 2024 T20 World Cup was quite promising. Playing three matches in New York, they were able to fine-tune their skills and gain momentum, especially benefiting their bowling unit post-IPL 2024. Although the fourth match in Florida was abandoned, India emerged unbeaten, advancing confidently to the Super-Eights. As they prepare for crucial encounters against Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia in the Caribbean, the focus shifts to their batting prowess. Experience in the West Indies will be invaluable, and here we analyze top three Indian Cricketers T20 run-scorers in the region.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, may not have boasted stellar T20I numbers in recent years, but his performances in the West Indies have been commendable. Accumulating 185 runs in six innings at a striking rate of 145.66, he stands as India’s third-highest run-scorer in this region.

Rohit’s debut T20I match in the West Indies dates back to the 2010 T20 World Cup against Australia at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. In that game, he played a valiant knock of 79* off 46 balls, despite India’s overall batting collapse for 135 runs in their pursuit of 185.

Twelve years later, during a bilateral series in Tarouba, Rohit once again showcased his batting prowess with a solid 64 off 44 balls as an opener, leading India to a formidable total of 190, which their bowlers defended with ease, securing a 68-run victory. However, in his latest appearance in the West Indies during the same series, Rohit had to retire hurt after scoring just 11 off 5 balls due to a muscle pull.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as a key player for India, especially highlighted by his recent form, including a match-winning unbeaten 50* against the USA. His performances in the West Indies have been nothing short of spectacular, amassing 216 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 36 and a strike rate of 161.19.

Suryakumar’s exploits in the West Indies began in 2022 when he played a scintillating innings of 76 off 44 balls in the third match of the series. Opening the innings, he displayed an exceptional ability to counterattack, hitting eight fours and four sixes.

Continuing his form into 2023, Suryakumar played another remarkable innings, scoring 83 off 54 balls on a difficult Providence pitch. Despite the bowlers’ tight lines and lack of pace, he maneuvered his innings with a combination of power and intelligence, finding gaps and clearing boundaries with ease.

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina’s contributions stand out in the context of T20 cricket in the West Indies. Despite his retirement, Raina remains India’s leading run-scorer under these conditions, with 221 runs in six innings at an average of 36.83 and a strike rate of 141.66.

Raina’s standout performance came during the 2010 T20 World Cup, where he scored a magnificent 101 off 60 balls against South Africa. This innings, featuring nine fours and five sixes, was India’s first century in T20 internationals and marked Raina’s coming of age as a T20 batsman. He followed this with a crucial 63 off 47 balls against Sri Lanka in the same tournament, further cementing his status as a reliable performer in the West Indies.
