Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has undergone major reshuffle in recent times. Basically, everything started to change after Najam Sethi took over as the new president in place of Ramiz Raja. As a part of that, there is a change in the selection panel of the country. Where there are many surprises. The country’s former wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal got an opportunity as a member of the recently formed Pakistan selection panel.
However, before that, Pakistan appointed Haroon Rashid as the chief selector. Since then, the PCB has been searching for its associate selector. Finally, they solved that problem. Kamran will do team selection under Rashid. Apart from this former wicket-keeper batsman, former cricketers like Mohammad Sami and Yasir Hamid have been kept in the selection panel.
PCB has also announced the name of the selection panel for the age group. Kamran got a bigger responsibility there. From now on, he will work as the chief selector of the Pakistan U-19 team. Four more people will work as Kamran’s assistants in the youth party elections. Tausif Ahmed, Arshad Khan, Shahid Nazir and Shoaib Khan got a chance in this panel.
Meanwhile, Sethi is quite pleased to have constituted the selection panel for the national team and the age group. In this regard, the PCB President said, “The selection panel has been formed with all the experienced and cricket knowledgeable people. They have represented Pakistan in world cricket for a long time. I hope they will work to the best of their ability as selectors. I am very hopeful.”
Note that Kamran last played international cricket in 2017. Although he did not play in the Pakistan jersey after that, he continued to play domestic cricket until 2022. This former wicket-keeper batsman has many happy memories with Pakistan in his long career. After making his debut in 2002, Kamran played a total of 268 matches for the country. Whereas, he has more than 6000 runs in all three formats.
A few days ago, the former captain of the country, Shahid Afridi, served as the chief selector of the PCB. However, he resigned within a few days. Kamran now has an opportunity to prove himself as a selector. Let’s see how much success Pakistan got during his time.
