Last year, Nepal’s national team cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was arrested on rape charges. For this he has to go to jail. Lamichhane was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl last year. According to the girl’s complaint, the 17-year-old girl was raped in Kathmandu, Nepal. But the police could not arrest him as he left the country to play the day after the incident. At one point, Nepal informed that they would take the help of Interpol to catch Lamichhane. The Nepal Cricket Board also banned him from cricket.
But after Lamichhane returned home, Nepal no longer had to take the help of Interpol. He was arrested last November, then released on bail in January this year. The ban was also lifted from the board. Get a chance to return to the national team in the tri-series team. But there are obstacles from the country’s women’s organization workers. They don’t want Lamichhane on the field.
Ever since the ban on cricket was lifted from Lamichhane, the common people of Nepal were outraged. They could not accept that the court ordered him to return to the field on bail. Now women’s organizations have joined them. But Lamichhane has been denying the allegations against him from the beginning.
It should be noted that Lamichhane was the biggest name in Nepali cricket before being accused of rape. He is the only Nepali cricketer to play in the world’s major franchise leagues. From IPL, BPL, CPL, PSL, he also played in Big Bash. Before being accused, he was a cricketer of Nepal’s national team. He was the lifeblood of cricket in the country. And now the people of his country are protesting against him.
However, Lamichhane did not open up on the matter. In an interview after getting bail, however, he said his
all thoughts are about cricket now. Lamichhane wants to contribute for the country. However, many have feared that his cricket career will end in the current situation.
