New Zealand wants Boult in ODI World Cup

New Zealand wants Boult in ODI World Cup

Trent Boult has been reigning in New Zealand’s pace bowling department for a long time. With a mix of pace and skill, this star pacer is used to be dangerous for batsmen. But a few months ago, New Zealand received bad news from him. Boult decided not to play regularly for the national team. However, New Zealand wants to get this pacer in the upcoming ODI World Cup team.

He reduced his match for the national team mainly to give time to his family and to play the franchise-based T20 league. But completely retired, that’s not the case. Boult, who is not under contract with the board, can return to the team whenever he wants. So, with the door open to play in the national team, the Kiwi selectors are looking to build a bowling attack centered around Boult in big events like the World Cup.

New Zealand chief selector Gavin Larsen has recently praised Boult. He said, “Boult can play for the national team whenever he wants. There is no restriction. We all know about his experience and skills. He can win our matches. He has been playing international cricket for many years. He knows how to bowl at any time. His contribution to New Zealand cricket is undeniable. He can return to the team and play for the country at any moment he wants.”

Larsen is hoping for Boult’s performance in the World Cup. The chief selector also said about the star pacer, “We understand his (Boult’s) situation. We have enough respect for his decision. But we want him to play in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Our coach is also in touch with him in this regard. He played many matched in India. It will be helpful for us. He can be our team’s trump card in the World Cup. He can contribute to the country whenever he wants. It’s a great opportunity for him.”

Meanwhile, currently in the United Arab Emirates, Boult is playing for MI Emirates in the International T20 League. He last played for the national team in the last Twenty20 World Cup. The star pacer has taken 8 wickets from 5 matches on Australian soil. However, since he is a known face in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Kiwi pacer will get an added advantage if he plays the World Cup on Indian soil.
