Controversy erupted before the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy started. The controversy centred around Nagpur’s Spin heaven. It is already assumed that the Australian batsmen will be blue against the spin poison of the Indians. In the end, it happened. Australia was all out in two innings in just 3 days. While chasing 16 of their 20 wickets, India’s three spinners share the wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja broke Australia’s batting lineup by taking 5 wickets in the first innings. The visitors were bowled out for just 177 runs. In the second innings, however, another spinner Ravichandran Ashwin did the main job. Jadeja’s 2 wickets along with his 5 wickets. On the other hand, India scored 400 runs in one inning. As a result, India won by innings and 131 runs, leading 1 – 0.
Meanwhile, in addition to taking 7 wickets in the match, Jadeja also contributed to batting. A half-century came from his bat which helped India to reach 400. As a result, the man of the match award goes to this all-rounder. And returning to international cricket after a long five months, he became the man of the match. Jadeja also thanked everyone who was by his side during the injury.
In an interview, Jadeja said, “To be back on the field after five long months, I am really happy. It is a great thing for me. I have worked hard at the National Cricket Academy since the injury. The doctors, physios and everyone who helped me there; I want to say thank you. The batting has also been good. I love batting here.”
Jadeja also received punishment in this memorable match. The Indian all-rounder applied ointment on the finger on the first day of the Nagpur Test. However, he did not take permission from the umpire before applying the ointment. Basically, to avoid offences like ball tampering, it is mandatory to take permission from the umpire before using any substance in the hands. Jadeja was penalized for breaking that rule. He was fined 25 per cent of the match fee.
It should be noted that Jadeja injured his knee while playing in the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year. For this, he had to undergo surgery on the doctor’s advice. It took about five months to recover from the injury. Meanwhile, the Indian all-rounder has missed a big event like T20 World Cup. Now his return is giving India relief ahead of the ODI World Cup.
