Team India is gently but steadily covering all of their bases in the run-up to the World Cup at home. They recently thrashed Australia in the second ODI in Indore, clinching the series 2-0 with one match remaining. What’s more impressive about this series victory is that it was achieved without the participation of several of their usual players. Meanwhile, Australia has many unanswered questions. They have now lost five one-day internationals in a row and need to get things back on track quickly because the World Cup is only a few weeks away.
India has been far too dominant in this series, and their squad will be bolstered by the return of some of their greatest players who had previously been rested. They have a good chance of winning the series 3-0.
Australia has also rested several of their best players thus far in this series. We expect them to be at full strength in this ODI, but defeating India will be a difficult task.
IND vs AUS Team Preview & Squads
India
India could not have had a better start to the World Cup. They recently won the Asia Cup and have now defeated Australia at home with a second-string team. More crucially, they have checked off one or more key boxes with each game.
They blasted 399-5 in the second ODI at Indore, thanks to hundreds from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, as well as a stunning unbeaten 72 off 37 balls from Suryakumar Yadav. After that, they bowled Australia out for 217 runs and won the match by 99 runs (DLS method).
Regular captain Rohit Sharma will return for the third ODI, along with Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav, and all of them are expected to be drafted into the starting eleven as this is their final international encounter before the World Cup. Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur will be rested for this match, according to reports.
Both Rohit and Kohli are in fantastic form and have a strong record versus Australia. We expect one of these two to advance and get a large score.
Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s top spinner last night with 3-41 from 7 overs, should also be included in the squad. The sight of Ashwin bowling with the in-form Kuldeep Yadav will be spectacular. Because this will be another flat track, the speedier bowlers will most likely leak runs.
Australia has been trying to get going in ODIs recently. Their primary concern is the recurring middle-order collapses. Even in the second ODI against India, they went from 89-2 to 140-8 before the tailenders came to the rescue.
While there is no reason to panic just yet, team management would like to see some strong performances from Steven Smith, Alex Carey, and Cameron Green in the last ODI. They haven’t been consistent in a long time, and a big knock in Indian circumstances would be beneficial. Glenn Maxwell is scheduled to play in the last game. It’ll be interesting to watch how he performs.
Opener David Warner looked good, hitting two back-to-back fifties before getting removed. We anticipate another useful knock from him. We may expect some pyrotechnics on this batting beauty of a wicket with Mitchell Marsh and him at the crease.
Adam Zampa, the leg-spinner, has been consistent with his lines as usual. In the second ODI, Josh Hazlewood also held his own on that flat surface. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are expected to be promoted to the playing eleven for the last game, giving their bowling attack a much-needed boost.
Australia Squads
Australia
Pat Cummins (c), Josh Inglis (wk), David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa, and Sean Abbott.
So far in the series, the captain who won the toss has elected to bat first in both encounters. If the skippers win the toss ahead of this ODI, we predict that they will again choose to field first.
We may expect very humid and overcast conditions in Rajkot during this game. We do not anticipate rain, but temperatures will remain in the high 20s and early 30s during the match.
This has historically been a terrific batting track in Rajkot, and we expect both teams to score more than 300 runs in the third and final ODI.
