Following their recent tour of Bangladesh, where they drew the Test series 1-1, New Zealand will now host the Bangla Tigers for a white-ball series. First up for the two teams is a three-match ODI series that starts in Dunedin on December 17. On December 27, a three-match T20 series will commence. The Black Caps are formidable at home and have a stellar record when playing Bangladesh on their soil. As such, they will start the series as favorites.
Regular ODI captain Kane Williamson has been rested for this series, so Tom Latham will lead New Zealand. Devon Conway, Tim Southee, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, and Mitchell Santner have also been rested. The Black Caps have enough weapons in their inventory to handle the opposition, so that won’t be a major problem.
Bangladesh recorded just two wins in nine games during the World Cup, which was a terrible experience for them. They will face New Zealand in unfamiliar circumstances, and things won’t get any better for them because usual skipper Shakib Al Hasan is still recovering from a finger injury.
NZ vs BAN Team Preview & Squads
New Zealand
Rachin Ravindra will be one of their key hitters to keep an eye on, to start. The youthful, talented left-handed hitter just had a breakthrough World Cup in India, amassing 578 runs at an average of 64.22 in 10 innings. We also believe that Will Young, who has scored 206 runs at an average of 34.33 over the last six games, will do well at bat in this series. Although Finn Allen has been erratic lately, this series seems to be the one where he establishes his dominance.
In the absence of the regular stars, Kyle Jamieson will lead New Zealand’s bowling attack. The tall fast bowler is making his comeback after a protracted injury layoff, but these home conditions should suit him well. He’s probably going to be paired with Adam Milne for the new ball.

Bangladesh
There are several exciting faces in this bright group under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto. Their main batsman will be Shanto himself. In the past ten games, he has amassed 298 runs at an average of 33.11. The Bangladeshi side will also find Litton Das’ experience to be highly helpful. Despite his previous struggles, we anticipate that he will contribute some significant runs to this series. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim are the other two hitters that are worth taking a chance on.
Mustafizur Rahman will play a key role in the bowling attack. In 15 ODIs, he has claimed 21 wickets against New Zealand, and we believe he will have a successful series. Hasan Mahmud has performed well in the few opportunities he has had thus far, and he could emerge as Bangladesh’s top bowler in this series.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh, 1st ODI | Bangladesh tour of New Zealand, 2023
The chasing team has won six of the eleven games held at Dunedin’s University Oval. Here, we believe the team that wins the toss will decide to field first.
On the day of the game, a few rains are anticipated in the morning. However, there will be cloud cover for most of the day.
The University Oval in Dunedin has a great batting surface. You should witness plenty of fours and sixes being pounded because this is a small field. After seeing off the fresh ball, batters can play their shots whenever they like. Bowlers will need to deliver precise lengths.
