After a disastrous World Cup campaign, England landed in the Caribbean hoping for a fresh start, anticipating the commencement of a new ODI cycle. West Indies never qualified for the main contest in the first place, and they are equally determined to start over and write a new chapter in their history.
Aside from their eerie similarities in approach to an ODI revival, there is a striking similarity in the makeup of these squads and the way they play the match. So, it’s only fair that the series stands at 1-1, with two games completed and one remaining. A hard-fought series victory will be a huge morale booster and a step in the right direction for these clubs trying to establish a legacy in this format.
The last two performances exemplify the kind of cricket that the West Indies have been playing since the 1990s, after dominating the sport for nearly two decades. One day, the squad completes the second most successful chase in ODI history. Then they couldn’t complete their 50-over quota and were bowled out for just over 200.
This hot-cold style of cricket will not assist their chances when they take to the field in search of their first bilateral ODI series win against England since 2007. Shai Hope, the inspirational skipper, has amassed 177 runs in his first two hits and appears to be headed for more. In their most recent encounter, Shane Rutherford proved to be an ideal ally, replacing the superb Romario Shepherd, who capably led the West Indies to a nail-biting victory in the opening One-Day International in Antigua.
Although skilled southpaw Alick Athanaze recently put up a solid 66, veteran players like Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer have not yet established themselves in this series. So far, bowlers have performed admirably, dismissing all of the English batters in the first innings and picking up four wickets in the second. They will undoubtedly get a little closer to playing fearlessly when they have a few extra runs to play with (the onus is on the batters), and that is when they will perform at their best.
This series, the English team’s main goal has been to develop young periphery players, and their “out with the old and in with the new” strategy has generally been successful. Test openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley haven’t yet established themselves in their new positions, but Phil Salt and Will Jacks appear the part as the new keepers of their top order.Liam Livingstone is still a late order dasher, but Harry Brook and Jos Buttler appear to be firmly established in their places in the order.
On the bowling front, Rehan Ahmed has a lot to do to compete with outgoing leggie Adil Rashid, but he has the time and talent to do it. Sam Curran, the baby-faced 25-year-old, will need time to adjust to being labeled as the new head of the assault. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are still attempting to build a name for themselves.
However, all of these players have potential, appear promising, and are keen to restore some pride to the English style of ODI cricket. Will a series victory in Barbados be their first major accomplishment together?

Six of the last seven ODIs at the Kensington Oval have been won by the side fielding first, thus we predict that if both captains win the toss ahead of this match, they will choose to field first. Although rain is possible in the morning on Saturday in Barbados, the prediction is for dry and pleasant conditions in the afternoon and evening.
This pitch provides a turn for spinners and some movement off the surface for faster bowlers. This is not a fast pitch, and the par score will not exceed 280.
