Sunrisers are aware that an off day for the Super Giants batting lineup is rare. With the kind of dominant batting form that Klaasen and Mulder showed in their late-order assault in the second qualifier, they would be well-prepared for an attack by the opposition on Saturday.
The Sunrisers’ key to success with the ball is in the hands of Ottniel Baartman, the star of the opening qualifier. The Super Giants ensured that the JSK openers who were in form were eliminated before they had a chance to smell, by defending 212 with the ball. They persisted in picking off wickets, never letting a JSK batsman score more than thirty. With the departure of the danger man, Donovan Ferreira, in the fifteenth over, the chase was all but finished.
Having eliminated the threat posed by JSK, will the Super Giants rise to the Sunrisers’ challenge and win the trophy? If their potent batting lineup performs well, their prospects of winning the title increase dramatically, and their batsmen will be praying that their first qualifier in Cape Town was an isolated incident.
