Galle Titans defeated Dambulla Aura in a Super Over at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday (July 31). In response to the 180 runs made by Galle Titans, Dambulla Aura’s innings stopped at 180 runs after batting. Dambulla Aura scored 9 runs batting first in the super over. Bhanuka Rajapaksa crossed the target of 10 runs after playing only 2 balls.
After losing the toss and getting to bat first, Galle Titans got off to a good start. The opening pair of Shevon Daniel and Lasith Croospulle added 22 runs. Among them, Crosspulle’s contribution was 3 runs from 5 balls. In the third wicket partnership, Rajapaksa and Daniel added 50 runs off 32 balls. Daniel left the crease scoring an equal number of 2 fours and sixes, he made 33 runs from 26 balls.
Hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes, Rajapaksa was dismissed for 48 off 34 balls by Dhananjaya de Silva. Shakib came into bat when Rajapaksa departed for the team’s 95 runs. His innings lasted only for 14 balls. Meanwhile, Shakib was bowled by S Shahnawaz Dahani scoring 23 runs with 1 four and 2 sixes.
Before that, wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert was run out after scoring 14 runs off 17 balls. In the sixth wicket partnership, captain Dasun Shanaka raised a storm with Lahiru Samarakoon. They added 41 runs in just 15 balls. Shanaka remained unbeaten on 42 runs off 21 balls smashing 2 fours and 4 sixes. Lahiru scored an unbeaten 7 runs off 4 balls.
Shahnawaz Dahani took 2 wickets with 37 runs in 4 overs for Dambulla Aura. Besides, Dhananjaya de Silva and Binura Fernando got 1 wicket each.
The bowlers of Galle Titans sent the two openers of Dambulla Aura back to the dressing room for just two team runs in pursuit of the target. But Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera led the team well towards victory. The two put together a 76-run partnership to bring Dambulla Aura back into the match.
Kusal returned to the pavilion after playing a 25-ball 40-run innings. On the other hand, Dhananjaya also scored 43 runs off 31 balls in the team’s 99 runs. After that, Dambulla Aura fell under pressure after losing two more wickets in quick time. However, Alex Ross and Hayden Kerr brought them back into the match. The duo’s 36-run stand ultimately took the match to a tie.
Hayden scored 20 runs off 10 balls, but Dambulla Aura eventually tied with Alex’s tenacity (28 balls 39*). However, the team lost in the super over.
Captain Dasun Shanaka took the highest number of 3 wickets with 27 runs in 4 overs for Galle Titans. Along with that, he was selected as the player of the match for his excellent batting performance. Apart from this, Kasun Rajitha took 2 wickets, and Shakib Al Hasan and Vishwa Fernando scalped 1 wicket each.
