The match between Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Gujarat Titans (GT) took turns with gaps. As DC, who batted at the beginning, was stopped at 130 runs, GT’s victory became quite certain. But the Capitals made the match exciting by picking up 4 wickets within 32 runs.
The Titans fell a bit behind in the race for victory at the end, but Rahul Tewatia’s three consecutive sixes brought them back into the match again. In the end, DC secured the victory by fighting till the last ball of Ishant Sharma’s over. As a result, Delhi Capitals left the field with a 5-run victory.
After winning the toss and batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (May 2), DC scored 130 runs after losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs courtesy of Aman Hakim Khan’s half-century. Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans were able to score 125 runs in response to the Capitals’ 130 runs. Titans bowler Mohammed Shami was selected as the player of the match picking up 4 wickets conceding just 11 runs.
Coming down to chase an easy target, GT’s two openers, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill returned to the dressing room within 18 runs. Gill scored 6 runs, but Wriddhiman could not score any runs. Hardik was the shield of the team in this match. He stood still in the procession of wickets falling till the last ball.
David Miller failed on the day badly. Even after playing 3 balls, he had to leave the field with zero runs next to his name. Abhinav Manohar accompanied Pandya for a long time as Miller departed. But he got out untimely with 26 off 33 balls.
Titans needed 33 runs to win in the last two overs, with 5 wickets in hand. Tewatia hit 3 consecutive sixes in the 19th over to bring tension to the match. 21 runs came in that over. As a result, GT needed 12 runs in the last over.
The victory did not seem difficult with Tewatia scoring 20 off 5 balls and captain Hardik scoring a half-century. Ishant Sharma surprised the team in such a position of the match. Opener Philip Salt was dismissed on the first ball. Priyam Garg scored 10 runs off 14 balls. Rilee Rossouw was dismissed by Shami for 8 runs off 6 balls. Manish Pandey departed after scoring 1 run.
Axar Patel and Aman took responsibility for the team in this moment of danger. The two made a 54-ball 50-run partnership. Axar was dismissed for the team’s 73 runs (27 runs off 30 balls).
