BAN vs WI (2nd Test) – Highlights In a thrilling Test match, BAN triumphed over the WI by 101 runs in the second Test
Bangladesh could not get well-satisfied before entering the main stage. After batting against England, Bangladesh was also in a bad position in bowling. Despite taking 6 wickets, the English won by beating the Tiger bowlers.
England won by 4 wickets in Guwahati on Monday (October 2) chasing 197 runs with 77 balls in hand in the World Cup warm-up match. Moeen Ali scored 56 runs off 39 balls whereas Joe Root was unbeaten on 26 runs.
Mustafizur Rahman took the maximum number of 2 wickets among the Tiger bowlers. Besides Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, and Nasum Ahmed took 1 wicket each. Apart from Taskin and Mahedi Hasan, no one’s economy wasn’t below 6.
After the start of the match, due to two rounds of rain, the game was reduced to 37 overs. Bangladesh scored 153 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 30 overs before the rain intervened. After the rain, the Tigers lost 4 wickets in the remaining 7 overs and added only 35 runs to the scorecard. The target in front of the English was 197 runs in 37 overs due to rain. They chased that down in just 24.1 overs.
Jos Buttler’s team was looking devastating from the start in the run chase. They picked up 100 runs in the first 10 overs. However, they keep losing wickets regularly in quest of making quick runs. In the first over of the innings, Dawid Malan returned to the dressing room after being caught at slip by Mustafiz. 4 runs from 2 balls came off his bat.
Jonny Bairstow started batting in the T20 format keeping Joe Root aside. Coming in the fifth over, Mustafiz stopped the English batter’s storm by bowling a yorker. 34 runs came from his bat off 21 balls, he scored 6 fours and 1 six.
Harry Brook came in and tried to keep up that rhythm of Baristow. However, Hasan Mahmud did not allow him to settle at the crease. Brook, who replaced Jason Roy in the World Cup squad, scored 17 runs off 15 balls with 4 fours before being bowled by Tiger Pacer. Buttler was the most destructive compared to the previous three batters.
The English captain scored 30 runs off 15 balls. He hit 5 fours and 1 six, before returning with a catch on the boundary off Shoriful. Liam Livingstone was the victim of Taskin with 7 runs from 11 balls. After his departure, Moeen stormed into the crease. He picked up his fifty off 37 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes. When the team was just 4 runs away from victory, Moeen was dismissed by Nasum. However, from the start, Root remained unbeaten on 26 runs from 40 balls.
The Tigers were disappointed with the bat earlier. Even though 11 batsmen came to the field, only Tanzid Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were bright on the day. Miraz scored 74 runs against 89 balls in 10 boundaries. Hitting 7 fours and 1 six, 45 runs from 44 balls came from Tanzid’s bat.
Besides, Mahmudullah played an innings of 18 runs. Taskin was unbeaten on 12 runs at the end. None of the other batters, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, or Towhid Hridoy could not enter the double-digit house.
Reece Topley clutched 3 wickets for 23 runs for the English side. David Willey and Adil Rashid both picked up 2 wickets. Sam Curran and Mark Wood took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, the Tigers defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the first warm-up match. Bangladesh will play the first match of the World Cup mission against Afghanistan on October 7. Tiger captain Shakib Al Hasan will be on the field in that match even if he was not featured in the two warm-up matches due to a leg injury.
