Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill set a huge target of 200 runs in front of Punjab Kings by playing a great innings. At the end of the 10th over of the match, there was a glimpse of a big victory in the Gujarat camp. But in the end, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma of Punjab devastated everything. Finally, Punjab got a narrow victory with only one ball in hand.Punjab beat Gujarat by 3 wickets in the 17th match of the current IPL on Thursday (April 4). Chasing 200 runs, Punjab lost 7 wickets and reached the target in 19.5 overs.
Chasing a huge target, Punjab did not get off to a good start. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan got out in the second over of the innings with 1 run from 2 balls. Another opener Jonny Bairstow started well but could not settle at the crease. Bairstow was dismissed by Noor Ahmed after scoring 22 runs off 13 balls. Prabhsimran was the victim of Noor scoring 35 runs off 24 balls. Punjab lost the fourth wicket for the team’s 70 runs. Sam Curran was dismissed for 5 runs off 8 balls. 130 runs were still needed from 68 balls to win. Then, Shashank took the lead of the team from there. But Sikandar Raza failed to accompany him. He got out after scoring 15 runs off 16 balls.
However, Jitesh Sharma kept the team in the fight by playing an important innings of 16 runs from 8 balls. After that, impact player Ashutosh Sharma along with Shashank made the Gujarat bowlers sleepless with four-sixes. In the end, they were successful. Although Ashutosh got out in the last over after scoring 31 runs in 17 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. Only 7 runs were needed from 5 balls. Bowler Darshan Nalkande gave some fear to the Punjab camp. Besides taking 1 wicket in the first three balls, he gave only 2 runs and gave Gujarat hope in the camp. But Shashank did not allow any drama in the match by hitting four on the fourth ball. The batter left the field after winning the match.
Shashank remained unbeaten on 61 runs off 29 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes. Noor took a maximum of 2 wickets at the cost of 32 runs for Gujarat. After a long time, Williamson could not play a big innings after getting a chance in IPL. On the day of his failure, Gujarat Titans got a big collection with the bat of skipper Shubman Gill. Rahul Tewatia also played a great cameo innings after Gill’s storm.
After losing the toss, Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha made an opening partnership of 29 runs. Saha departed after playing a slow innings of 11 runs off 13 balls in Kagiso Rabada’s over. Then came the 40-run stand between Kane Williamson and Gill. Williamson scored 26 off 22 balls before giving the wicket to Harpreet Brar. At the other end, Gill was playing well.
Sai Sudharshan scored 33 to keep the skipper company for a while. He got off to a great start before giving the catch to Jitesh Sharma in Harshal Patel’s over. Vijay Shankar was out for 8 runs off 10 balls. Rahul Tewatia played a great cameo innings for the last three overs. He played an explosive innings of 23 runs off 8 balls. At the other end, Gill was unbeaten on 89 runs. His 48-ball innings had 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Rabada took 2 wickets for Punjab. Brar and Patel got one wicket each. Kagiso Rabada was quite poor despite taking a maximum of 2 wickets for Punjab. He gave 44 runs at 11 economy rate in 4 overs. But the Shashank-Ashutosh craft ultimately overshadowed his bowling failure.
