B-Love Kandy vs Dambulla Aura (Match 06) – Highlights

B-Love Kandy has registered a big win by 7 wickets against Dambulla Aura in the 6th match of the Lankan Premier League (LPL) 2023. After losing two matches in a row, B-Love Candy secured their first win in the tournament.

Dambulla Aura captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and decided to bat first at Pallakelle International Stadium. But Dambulla Aura couldn’t score more than 156 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs due to B-Love Kandy’s aggressive bowling. In reply, B-Love Kandy cruised to victory with the loss of just 3 wickets and 9 balls in hand.

B-Love Kandy’s two openers, Fakhar Zaman and Dinesh Chandimal, attacked the Dambulla Aura bowlers from the start as they went down to chase the target. These two made a partnership of 69 runs in 8 overs. Where they picked up 57 runs in 6 overs of power play. Batsman Kamindu Mendis came to the wicket when Fakhar returned to the dressing room after scoring 28 runs off 26 balls.  

But the wicketkeeper-batsman Chandimal was playing according to the situation at one end of the wicket. But unfortunately, he was run out for the team’s 99 runs. He played a devastating innings of 48 off 29 balls for the team before returning to the pavilion. Where there were no sixes but there were 7 fours.

After Chandimal’s departure, Dambulla Aura’s bowlers tried hard to take control of the match. As a result, the speed of the team’s runs slowed down a bit. Kamindu got out after scoring 18 runs off 28 balls. However, experienced batsmen Angelo Mathews and Asif Ali brought the team back into the match from there. The stormy batting of these two finally helped them to reach the threshold of victory in 18.3 overs.  

Mathews played an unbeaten innings of 28 runs off 20 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. On the other hand, Asif remained unbeaten with 16 runs off 8 balls with the help of 3 boundaries. Dhananjaya de Silva and Hayden Kerr took 1 wicket each for Dambulla Aura.

Before this, Dambulla Aura batsmen came to bat first and were under pressure from the beginning of the bowling canon of B-Love Kandy bowlers. They lost 3 wickets after getting 36 runs in 6 overs of power play. Pacer Dushmantha Chameera struck first in Dambulla Aura’s camp. He sent back skipper Kusal (7) out for the team’s 14 runs.  

Then one by one Sadeera Samarawickrama (14) and Kusal Perera were sent back to the dug-out by spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Dambulla Aura couldn’t collect a challenging total mainly thanks to his excellent spells. However, Dhananjaya de Silva single-handedly tried to take the team forward. He played the team’s highest innings of 61 runs off 39 balls. There were 5 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.

But apart from Dhananjaya de Silva, no other batsman in the team could play a big innings. Opener Avishka Fernando scored 32 and Alex Ross made 21 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman took 2 wickets with 17 runs in 4 overs for B-Love Kandy. He was also adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant spell.  

Besides, Isuru Udana took 2 wickets and Dushmantha Chameera took 1 wicket. Captain Wanindu Hasaranga did not get any wickets but bowled 4 overs and spent only 23 runs.
