Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings (Match 53) – Highlights

The bowling unit of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has become a bit weak due to the loss of star pacers. CSK’s collection against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was not enough to fight well this attack. However, Ravindra Jadeja made up for the deficit. After an important innings with the bat, the all-rounder brought victory to the team with excellent bowling. CSK has advanced two steps to third in the points table.

In the 53rd match of the IPL in Dharamsala on Sunday (May 5), the Punjab Kings’ innings stopped at 139 runs chasing the 167 runs given by the Super Kings. After an innings of 43 runs from 26 balls with the bat, Jadeja was also selected as the player of the match for picking up 3 wickets at the cost of only 20 runs with the ball.

After losing the toss and getting into bat first, CSK’s batsmen could not make much use of it. Only three scored runs worth mentioning. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 32 off 21 balls, Daryl Mitchell scored 30 runs off 19 balls and Jadeja made 43 runs off 26 balls. Apart from this, Shardul Thakur scored 17 runs off 11 balls.

However, Jadeja has played an important role in bringing fighting capital to the team. He was at the crease till the last over to lead the team under pressure after losing 5 wickets for the team’s 101 runs. He took the team collection to 167 runs. Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel picked up 3 wickets each bowling brilliantly for PBKS. Besides, Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets and Sam Curran took 1 wicket.

After an important innings with the bat, Jadeja also played a great role with the ball. The bowling unit of Super Kings was already weakened as they lost the star pacers. Mustafizur Rahman has returned to Bangladesh. Matheesha Pathirana returned to Sri Lanka due to injury. Along with the two main arms, Deepak Chahar is also absent due to injury. However, Jadeja did not let the team suffer due to their absence.

However, Tushar Deshpande gave the team a great start with the ball. He sent two fearsome batsmen Jonny Bairstow (7) and Rilee Rossouw (0) to the dressing room before they could even get settled on the crease. Jadeja did the rest. He broke the batting pillar of PBKS by returning Prabhsimran Singh (30), Sam Curran (7), and Ashutosh Sharma (3). CSK defeated Punjab Kings by 28 runs despite taking 167 runs in the run flood tournament.

Prabhsimran scored the highest 30 runs for the Punjab Kings. Apart from Jadeja, Simarjeet Singh and Tushar Deshpande took 2 wickets each and Shardul Thakur and Mitchell Santner took 1 wicket each for CSK.

Chennai Super Kings have climbed to the third position in the points table with six wins and five losses in 11 matches. On the other hand, Punjab Kings are also placed eighth in the standings with four wins and seven losses from the same number of matches played.
