Sri Lanka and West Indies met in the 9th match of the ICC Qualifier, Super Six yesterday. Batting first in that match, West Indies set a moderate target in the fight to reach the final. Chasing that target, the Lankan players reached the target before the end of the scheduled over. On the other hand, West Indies had to leave the field with a big loss of 8 wickets. Sri Lankan Captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bowl first and invited the West Indies to bat. Batting first, Brandon King and Johnson Charles started well. The two put on a partnership of 36 runs in 6.2 overs. But then Brandon King had to leave the field. He scored 10 runs off 18 balls with 1 four before getting out.
After Brandon King left the field, Shamarh Brooks entered the field. But he could not stay in the field for long. He also left the field after scoring only two runs off 4 balls. Then skipper Shai Hope was trapped in LBW for just two runs and left the field. Batting for 244 runs, the Lankans reached the target in 44.2 overs. They had a great start. They went down to bat in the opening pair and scored 190 runs in 33.3 overs. Pathum Nissanka scored the most runs for them. He scored 104 runs off 113 balls with 14 fours. He paired well with Dimuth Karunaratne. He scored 83 runs off 92 balls with the help of 7 fours.
When they both left the field Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama took the win and then left the field. Kusal Mendis was unbeaten on 34 off 43 balls with the help of 3 fours. On the other hand, Sadeera Samarawickrama was unbeaten on 17 runs from 18 balls.
