BAN vs WI (2nd Test) – Highlights In a thrilling Test match, BAN triumphed over the WI by 101 runs in the second Test
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) stumbled in their first match of IPL 2024. But then they found their rhythm. This time, Super Giants snatched their third consecutive win by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT). They beat the Titans by 33 runs in this match.
LSG won the toss and went into bat at home ground Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday night and collected 163 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In response, GT got all out scoring 130 runs with 7 balls left in the innings.
Marcus Stoinis picked up only fifty for LSG. He scored 58 runs from 43 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes for the team. Captain KL Rahul scored the second-highest score of 33 runs in the innings. Nicholas Pooran contributed to collecting a challenging capital with a quick burst of runs (32 off 22 balls) towards the end.
Umesh Yadav and Darshan Nalkande took the maximum number of 2 wickets each for GT. Rashid Khan also took 1 wicket. On the other hand, Yash Thakur of Super Giants single-handedly destroyed GT’s innings with the ball. This medium pacer took the highest number of 5 wickets with 30 runs in 3.5 overs with one maiden.
Chasing a challenging target of 164 runs, GT’s two openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill got off to a great start. They picked up 47 runs without losing any wickets in the first five overs. GT crashed out of the match after the dismissal of skipper Gill on the last ball of the sixth over.
Gill scored 19 off 20 balls before being bowled by Yash Thakur in the last ball of the power play. GT’s score was 54 then. Kane Williamson, who came down to play as an impact player, departed as the team total stood at 56 runs after 8 balls. The former Kiwi captain, who scored 1 run, gave a return catch to Ravi Bishnoi. Bishnoi took a wonderful catch by leaping to the right.
Opener Sudharsan also added 2 more runs to the scoreboard. Sudharsan, who scored 31 off 23 balls, was caught by Bishnoi at deep midwicket off Krunal Pandya. After that, Rahul Tewatia tried to reduce the gap of runs for the Titans who lost wickets at regular intervals. Tewatia, who scored 30 off 25 balls, returned as the ninth batsman in the third ball of the 19th over.
Super Giants pacer Yash Thakur got Noor Ahmad back after 2 balls to snap up the first career Fifer. The 25-year-old pacer became the first bowler to take 5 wickets in IPL 2024. Along with that, he was also selected as the player of the match. Besides, Krunal Pandya took 3 wickets with only 11 runs in 4 overs.
Lucknow Super Giants have reached the third place in the points table securing 6 points as they got 3 wins in 4 matches. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans are in the seventh place of the standings with 4 points from 2 wins in 5 matches.
