Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars faced each other in the 26th match of the Pakistan Super League yesterday (March 9), Tuesday. Batting first in that match, Lahore Qalandars made a huge target in the scheduled 20 overs.
Later, chasing that target, Islamabad United collapsed before the end of the scheduled 20 overs. As a result, they have to leave the field with a huge loss of 119 runs. Islamabad United is in the 2nd place in the points table after winning 6 of the last 9 matches. Lahore Qalandars is in 1st place in the points table after winning 7 matches out of 9 matches. Lahore Qalandars won the toss and elected to bat first and sent Islamabad United to bowl. Lahore Qalandars were not very good at batting in the beginning. Abdullah Shafiq was caught out on the 3rd ball of the 1st over and left the field. But after that, Kamran Ghulam and Fakhar Zaman took control of the game. The two made a partnership of 122 runs in 10 overs.
But the incident happened at the 4th ball of the 11th over. Kamran Ghulam was caught out by Wasim and had to depart. He made 41 runs off 30 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes before getting out. Then Sam Billings entered the field. Fakhar Zaman and Sam Billings together took the team’s runs from 125 to 195 runs.
After that, Fakhar Zaman was caught out on the 4th ball of the 18th over and returned to the dressing room. He scored the most runs for them. He played a great inning of 115 runs off 57 balls. His innings of 115 runs were studded with 8 fours and 8 sixes.
Four balls later, Sam Billings also left the field. He made 32 runs off 22 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. Besides, David Wiese scored six runs in 2 balls. Fazalhaq Farooqi took 3 wickets alone for 40 runs in 4 overs for Islamabad United. Besides Hasan Ali and Mohammad Wasim took 1 wicket each.
Islamabad United wrapped up to bat with a target of 227 runs in just 15.1 overs. In the 2nd innings, they were in a good position. But after the team’s 32 runs, their wickets began to fall. That wicket-tending march was halted at 107 when their innings ended.
None of them can cross the 20-run barrier. Alex Hales scored the most runs for them. He scored 18 runs off 16 balls. Besides, Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 15 runs, Colin Munro 11 runs, Shadab Khan 12 runs, Mubasir Khan 3 runs, Asif Ali 7 runs, Fahim Ashraf 4 runs, Hasan Ali 18 runs, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. scored 8 runs. Rashid Khan took 4 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs for Lahore Qalandars. Zaman Khan and Harris Rauf took 2 wickets each. Besides, David Wiese took 1 wicket.
