Cricket Highlights, November 30 – December 03: Bangladesh tour of West Indies (2nd Test) – Bangladesh vs West Indies
BAN vs WI (2nd Test) – Highlights In a thrilling Test match, BAN triumphed over the WI by 101 runs in the second Test
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) seems to have become a formidable team. The franchise is in heavy scoring passion this season. Along with scoring the highest team total, they played three innings bigger than 260 this time. SRH set a record against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday (May 8).
Sunrisers reached the port of victory in just 9.4 overs and 58 balls without losing any wickets to chase the target of 166 runs given by LSG. The bowlers of Super Giants were disoriented by the stormy batting of SRH’s two openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. With such a big win, SRH’s play-off game is not final, but the Mumbai Indians (MI) exit from this edition of the tournament is confirmed.
Sunrisers’ win with 62 balls to spare is the biggest win by a margin of balls to spare (target of 100+ runs) in IPL history. Delhi’s feat of winning with 57 balls in hand against Punjab in 2022 has fallen behind. 167 runs without a wicket in just 9.4 overs is the highest total in the first 10 overs in IPL. The previous highest was 158 for 4 by the Sunrisers, against Delhi Capitals (DC) this year.
In addition to the team, several records were made at the individual and pair levels. Travis Head reached his fifty off 16 balls in unbeaten innings of 89 off 30 balls. He had 8 fours and sixes in these innings. This is his third fifty playing less than 20 balls, all came in this season. Travis made fifty on the power play, in the fifth over. No batsman has made three fifties in the power play in an IPL season.
His opening partner Abhishek Sharma remained unbeaten on 75 off 28 balls. In his innings, there were 6 sixes with 8 fours. The duo brought the team the biggest win with the balls remaining, scoring 105 runs in the power play, the second-highest in the IPL. Sunrisers’ highest score of 125 runs was also against Delhi Capitals (DC).
With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad has reached the third position in the points table with 14 points in 12 matches. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are at the top with 16 points from 11 matches, second place is held by Rajasthan Royals (RR). Lucknow Super Giants are in the 6th position in the standings with 12 points from 12 matches.
Before winning the toss, the Super Giants could score only 165 runs after losing 4 wickets in the controlled bowling of Sunrisers’ bowlers. LSG lost the wickets of Quinton de Kock and Marcus Stoinis at the start of the innings. KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya combined well to handle the initial upset. Captain Rahul got out after scoring 29 runs off 33 balls.
Krunal Pandya scored 24 runs off 21 balls. He was run out by Pat Cummins. Then Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni took the helm of LSG. These two made a pair of 99 runs. Despite the great pair of these two, the team’s score did not exceed 165 runs. Nicholas Pooran remained unbeaten on 48 runs off 26 balls. He hit 1-six with 6 boundaries. Ayush Badoni stood unbeaten with 55 runs off 30 balls. He hit 9 boundaries.
