Punjab Kings (PBKS) needed 29 runs from the last over to win. Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh almost won this impossible match for the Kings. Like the previous match, they showed incredible resistance in this encounter. But in the last over, these two could not take more than 26 runs. Shikhar Dhawan’s team lost the game just by 2 runs even though the two batsmen hit 3 sixes.
The hosts lost by 2 runs to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Mullanpur, Punjab on Tuesday (April 9). Going to bat with the target of 183 runs given by Sunrisers, Punjab Kings’ innings stopped at 180 runs at the end of the scheduled over.
Chasing 183 runs given by Sunrisers, PBKS could never build a strong position in the fight. Shashank, the hero of victory in the previous match, was also on the other side of the wicket.

The Aussie pacer, who gave only 11 runs in the first three overs, was not spared. He was also hit for 2 boundaries in the first three balls. However, the Australian captain bowled well in the next 3 balls. Cummins gave 11 runs in the 18th over.
39 runs needed in the last 2 overs. T Natarajan came into the bowl in the 19th over to face two devastating batters. Tight bowling on this overturned the game. Natarajan brought the match to the possession of Sunrisers with just 10 runs in the penultimate over.
Rinku Singh scored 29 runs in the last over in the previous IPL. Ashutosh has shown the possibility of doing something like that this time too. He hit 2 sixes in the first two balls. However, on both occasions, the balls missed the fielder’s hands to go for a six. But till then, it seemed that luck was on the side of the brave. Seeing the devastating batting of Ashutosh, the experienced Jaydev Unadkat started to lose the line. He gave away two wide.
15 runs were needed from the last 4 balls. The batsmen took a double by pushing the first ball to the leg side. 2 runs were needed in the next ball too. When 2 balls required 11, Unadkat gave a wide again. PBKS could not get 10 runs in the last 2 balls. Ashutosh raised a catch while trying to hit a 6 on the fifth ball. Rahul Tripathi missed the catch but didn’t allow the ball for a boundary. Shashank hit a six off the last ball. But by that time, it was midnight of the match. Punjab Kings left the field with a loss of 2 runs.
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting, SRH fell into disaster at the start. However, in the middle over, Cummins’ team turned around with the bat of Nitish Reddy.
