Cricket Highlights, November 30 – December 03: Bangladesh tour of West Indies (2nd Test) – Bangladesh vs West Indies
BAN vs WI (2nd Test) – Highlights In a thrilling Test match, BAN triumphed over the WI by 101 runs in the second Test
Mitchell Marsh’s storm and Steven Smith’s responsible innings gave Australia a big 8-wicket victory over Bangladesh. And Bangladesh’s World Cup mission ended with this.
Bangladesh set Australia a target of 307 runs by batting first in Pune on Saturday (November 11). In response, Australia reached the port of victory after losing only 2 wickets with Mitchell Marsh’s century and 32 balls in hand.
Bangladesh crossed the 300-run mark for the first time in the World Cup. But even in such a match, the Tigers had to lose badly. Marsh played an unbeaten innings of 177 runs for the Aussies in pursuit of a big target. Mustafiz and Taskin took one wicket each for Bangladesh.
In this victory, however, Australia is not getting any benefit in the tournament. They have already confirmed the top four of the tournament. Pat Cummins’ team is also at number three in the points table. On the other hand, Bangladesh has been dropped long ago. The Tigers’ World Cup mission ended at number eight. If the Netherlands does not beat India in their last match, the Tigers will be guaranteed to play in the Champions Trophy.
Australia stumbled early in the chase. Taskin Ahmed returned Travis Head in the third over of the innings. By scoring 10 runs, this opener broke the opening pair of 12 runs.
David Warner and Mitchell Marsh handled the initial shock with experienced hands. The two experienced batsmen added 120 runs off 116 balls for the second wicket. Australia took control of the match with their excellent batting. Then, Mustafiz broke this pair by returning Warner who scored 53 runs in the 23rd over.
These two are the successes of Bangladesh in Australia’s innings. The rest of the story is just about Aussie’s supremacy. With an extra spinner on the field, no spell of Bangladesh survived in front of Marsh! This top-order batsman was doing a good job while facing bowlers. He reached his century in the run chase in just 87 balls. In the end, he remained unbeaten with 177 runs off 132 balls.
Marsh was ably supported at the other end by Steven Smith. This experienced batsman left the field with an unbeaten 63 off 64 balls. With their unbroken 175-run partnership for the fourth wicket, Australia easily reached the port of victory.
Bangladesh scored 306 runs after losing 8 wickets at the end of the scheduled over. The Tigers’ total on the power play stood at 62. After the power play, Tamim started aggressive batting. He hit 2 consecutive fours in Marsh’s over. 13 runs came in that over. Tamim took 36 runs off 33 balls. He gave an easy catch to Sean Abbott in the next over. Abbott took Tamim’s catch on the run.
Like Tamim, Liton also stopped at 36 runs. After that, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy started the Bangladesh run wheel. Tigers picked up 150 before 25 overs were completed. Shanto was run out while taking a double on a wrong call. Their pair broke at 64 runs. The Bangladesh captain was run out on the brink of the strike with the regret of fifty. He scored 45 runs off 57 balls.
Then Mahmudullah Riyad scored 32 runs from 28 balls with Hridoy. He was run out by Labuschagne. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 21 runs off 24 balls. Hridoy was racing towards the century. However, he was caught by Labuschagne while hitting a boundary off Marcus Stoinis. Hridoy hit 5 fours and 2 sixes to score 74 runs off 79 balls. In the end, Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 29 off 20 balls, Nasum Ahmed scored 7 and Sheikh Mahedi scored 2 runs.
