Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians (Match 16) – Highlights

Delhi Capitals (DC) went on the back foot after losing three matches in a row. As a result, they went down to the field with several changes in their XI against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their fourth match. Tiger pacer Mustafizur Rahman also got a place in the XI. But that did not turn around the fate of the Capitals. They have got defeated by MI by 6 wickets on the day.  MI got off to a great start coming down to chase 173 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday (April 11). They picked up 71 runs in the first wicket pair.  Wicket-keeper batsman, Ishan Kishan got out after scoring 31 runs then. In the 16th over of the innings, MI lost two consecutive wickets for the team’s 139 runs.

 

Mukesh Kumar grabbed both wickets. Tilak Varma returned for 41 runs and Suryakumar Yadav returned to the pavilion for zero runs. Pacer Mustafiz came to bowl the 17th over in a tense match. Mustafiz conceded a boundary on the first ball but the next three balls were dots. This cutter master took the wicket of Rohit on the fifth ball. The MI captain got caught by wicketkeeper Abishek Porel off a wide-length ball by Mustafiz. He scored 65 runs off 45 balls hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes.  

 

In the next over, Anrich Nortje gave only 6 runs. But MI returned to the match again by picking up 15 runs in the 19th over by Mustafiz. MI needed 5 runs from the last over to win. Nortje made the match interesting with 2 dots on the first three balls. In the second ball, Mukesh Kumar dropped the catch of Tim David. The Capitals missed a runout opportunity on the fifth ball of the over. As a result, MI needed 2 runs to win from the last ball.  David batted straight and picked up two runs as MI secured an incredible 6-wicket win. Also, after losing two matches in a row, they got their first win in the tournament in the third match. In the end, David was unbeaten on 13 and Cameron Green stood not out with 17 runs. 

 

Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, the Capitals were all out for 172 runs with two balls left in the innings. Axar Patel played a stormy inning of 54 runs off 25 balls for the team. Patel’s innings had 4 fours and 5 sixes. Besides, opener and captain David Warner scored 51 runs off 47 balls with the help of 6 boundaries.  The Capitals lost the first wicket for the team’s 33 runs. In 3.4 overs, opener Prithvi Shaw (15 runs from 10 balls) returned to the dressing room off Hrithik Shokeen. Delhi lost the second wicket for 76 runs. Manish Pandey (26 runs off 18 balls) was dismissed by Piyush Chawla in 9.5 overs. Yash Dhull (2 runs from 4 balls), Rovman Powell (4 runs from 4 balls), and Lalit Yadav (2 runs from 4 balls) failed to make some useful contributions with the bat.  

 

But Axar Patel took responsibility for the team at the moment of disaster. He was eventually dismissed for 54 off 25 balls. Along with that, Warner-Patel’s 35-ball 67-run partnership was also broken. Captain Warner also returned to the pavilion without adding any runs for the team after Axar’s return. In the end, Mustafiz was unbeaten with 1 run from 1 ball.  Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff took the maximum number of 3 wickets for MI. Apart from this, Riley Meredith took 2 wickets and Hrithik Shokeen took 1 wicket each. By winning this match, Mumbai Indians have got up to the 8th place in the points table. Besides, Delhi Capitals is now at the bottom of the points table after losing four matches in a row.
