PS-W vs MR-W (11th Match) – Highlights In this article, we will discuss the 11th match of the Women’s Big Bash League between Perth
After England’s batting prowess, Pakistan’s hopes of the semi-finals terminated. However, Babar Azam’s team had an opportunity to finish the World Cup mission with a win. But the Men in Green could not do that either. The Pakistan team lost by a big margin in chasing the target given by the English.
England beat Pakistan by 93 runs in their last World Cup match on Saturday (November 11). Pakistan was bowled out for 244 runs against England’s target of 338 runs.
With this victory, the defending champion England finished the World Cup from number 7 position in the points table. It also confirms the position of the team in the 2025 Champions Trophy. On the other hand, despite losing by a big margin, Pakistan finished the World Cup mission at number five.
Pakistan did not get the start they needed to chase down the target. Abdullah Shafique went back to the pavilion before opening the account of runs. Fakhar Zaman was a symbol of trust for Pakistan in this edition of the World Cup. He was also dissatisfied. Fakhar became David Willey’s second victim by scoring 1 run off 9 balls.
Pakistan’s two big trust characters, Babar and Mohammad Rizwan formed a partnership for the third wicket. But this pair also failed to show the light of hope. After scoring 51 runs for the third wicket, Babar returned to the team’s 61 runs. He (38) gave a catch to Adil Rashid off Gus Atkinson.
Rizwan (36) was bowled by Moeen Ali when the team total reached 100 runs. After that, Saud Shakeel’s 29 runs gave temporary relief to Pakistan, but due to the failure of Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan, Pakistan’s defeat was confirmed. Pakistan’s defeat was only a matter of time as Agha Salman returned with Willey’s ball scoring 51 runs.
In the end, two bowlers Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr started a new storm. These two bowlers made a pair of 53 runs in 33 balls. However, it did not harm England much. They won by a big margin.
Earlier, England got off to a good start by winning the toss and batting first. 82 runs came from the opening pair. Dawid Malan, who scored 31 runs off 39 balls, returned to the dressing room off Iftikhar in 13.3 overs. After that, another opener, Jonny Bairstow, could not go far. The English opener got out after scoring 59 runs from 61 balls in 18.2 overs by Haris.
After losing 2 wickets for 108 runs, the English got a strong pair. Joe Root and Ben Stokes put on 132 runs off 131 balls. The team’s total stood at 240 runs then. England’s third wicket fell in 40.1 overs. At that time, Shaheen Afridi sent off Stokes who scored 84 runs off 76 balls.
After adding 17 runs to the team’s scoreboard, Shaheen also picked up Root’s wicket. Root departed with 60 runs from 72 balls. After Stokes and Root departed, England moved forward with consistency. Harry Brook (30 runs from 17 balls) and captain Jos Buttler (27 runs from 18 balls) played an important role in that journey. But in the end, both were out.
Then Moeen and Chris Woakes came to the wicket. Moeen (8 runs from 6 balls) was bowled by Haris for the team’s 317 runs. Later, Willey departed after scoring 15 runs off 5 balls. Wasim replaced Willey. The Pakistani pacer not only took the wicket of Willey but also Gus Atkinson in the end. Woakes (4 runs from 4 balls) and Adil Rashid (0 runs from 1 ball) finished the innings for the English.
Haris Rauf took the highest number of 3 wickets for Pakistan. Besides, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr scalped 2 wickets and Iftikhar Ahmed took 1 wicket. Conversely, David Willey, who claimed the highest number of three wickets for his side, was named England’s player of the match. Moreover, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, and Gus Atkinson got 2 wickets each and Chris Woakes picked up 1 wicket.
