England and Bangladesh met in the 3rd match of the 3-match T20 series on Tuesday, March 14. Bangladesh went into that match with much confidence that they would whitewash the English in this bilateral series. On the other hand, England fought to save their honor.
Batting first in that important match, Bangladesh set a target very well on such a pitch in the scheduled 20 overs. After chasing that target, England had to leave the field with a whitewash after the scheduled over ended. Besides, Litton Das won the title of man of the match with great batting. On the other hand, Nazmul Hossain Shanto made his name in Man of the Series.
England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first and invited Bangladesh to bat. Coming down to bat, the Bangladesh batting unit showed a strong performance in front of the England bowling attack.
Bangladesh’s two openers Rony Talukdar and Litton Das came to bat at the beginning. The two openers could not do much in the entire series. But in the last match of the T20 series, due to the great batting of Liton Das, Bangladesh set a good target.
The Tigers scored 46 runs without losing a wicket in 6 overs of the power play riding on the bat of Litton Das and Rony Talukder. But the incident happened in the 8th over. Bangladesh lost its first wicket at 55 runs. Rony had to leave the field after being caught out by Adil Rashid. However, the catch was taken by Adil Rashid himself. Rony scored 24 runs off 22 balls with 3 fours before leaving the field.
After Rony got out, Nazmul Hossain Shanto entered the field. In the second wicket, Litton and Nazmul Hossain Shanto played stormy innings. They made a pair of 84 runs off 57 balls. The two together took the team’s runs from 55 to 139 runs. But then the star of this match Litton Das left the field with 3 overs remaining.
He was caught out by Chris Jordan and returned to the dressing room. The catch was taken by Phil Salt. He played brilliant innings of 73 runs off 57 balls before getting out. His innings of 73 runs were studded with 10 fours and 1 six.
Then Captain Shakib Al Hasan entered the field to accompany Shanto. However, he did not have to bat for long as the over was over. He was unbeaten on 4 runs from 6 balls. In the end, Bangladesh set a target of 158 runs after losing 2 wickets with 10 runs extra.
Batting for a target of 158 runs, England’s innings stopped at 142 runs after losing 6 wickets. Coming down to bat in the 2nd innings, opener Phil Salt could not stand in front of the bowling attack of Bangladesh. He left the field at the team’s 5 runs with a golden duck. Then Malan and Captain Jos Buttler turned the game around. The two together took the team’s run to 100 runs.
But then Malan had to leave the field. With the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes, he scored 53 runs off 47 balls. Jos Buttler left the field just after Malan was dismissed. He scored 40 runs off 31 balls with the help of 4 fours and 1 six. After that, no one else batted well. Ben Duckett left the field with 11 runs from 11 balls. Moeen Ali returned to the dressing room after scoring 9 runs. Sam Curran scored 4 runs.
Besides, Chris Woakes was unbeaten on 13 runs from 10 balls and Chris Jordan was unbeaten on 2 runs. In the end, they left the field with a loss of 16 runs with 10 extra runs.
Taskin Ahmed took two wickets with 26 runs in 4 overs for Bangladesh. Besides, Tanvir Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mustafizur Rahman took 1 wicket each.
