Since the start of the ODI World Cup, India-Pakistan has faced a total of 8 times. India has defeated Pakistan every time in this confrontation between the arch-rivals.
After losing the toss, Pakistan got off to a good start but ended up in a batting disaster. Babar & co. stopped scoring 191 runs. In response, India berthed at the port of victory with 117 balls in hand.
Pakistan did not do much wrong batting first. Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq added 41 runs in the opening. Pakistan was overcoming the blow given by Siraj well. But this time the Pakistan team was blown by Hardik Pandya. This medium pacer guided Imam to the dressing room, who was batting in great rhythm, he scored 36 runs.
Mohammad Rizwan, the centurion of the last match, could have returned with just 1 run. But luck has helped him well. Ravindra Jadeja’s ball was given out by the umpire, but he survived taking a review.
Then Babar and Rizwan batted quite comfortably. They made the Indian bowlers sweat by playing beautiful cricketing shots again and again. Babar got out in the very next ball after picking up a fifty off 57 balls with 7 fours.
Kuldeep Yadav sent back Saud Shakeel (6) in quick time after Babar’s departure. Kuldeep also sent off Iftikhar Ahmed (4) in the same over. The disaster was completed with the departure of the set batter Rizwan. Just 1 run away from fifty, he returned to the pavilion after being bowled by a brilliant ball from Jasprit Bumrah. After one over, Bumrah came back to bowl and sent Shadab Khan (2) back to the dressing room.
In the 40th over, Mohammad Nawaz (4) returned after being caught by Hardik. Hasan Ali (12) was dismissed on the first ball of the next over. Pakistan’s innings stopped at 191 when Haris Rauf (2) got lbw off Jadeja.
Shardul Thakur was the only one not to get a wicket for India on the day. All the remaining five bowlers got two wickets each. However, Jasprit Bumrah was elected player of the match conceding only 19 runs in 7 overs with a maiden.
India lost the wicket of Shubman Gill (16) whilst the team total was 23 runs. Virat Kohli too could not settle on the wicket for long. Hasan Ali got him out for 16 runs with a simple catch. But Rohit played a stormy innings. After playing an innings of 86 runs from 63 balls, he returned to the dressing room after being victimized by Shaheen Afridi.
