Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have registered a resounding 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday in the 20th match of IPL 2023. With this, Faf du Plessis’s team got their 2nd victory in the fourth match of the season.
After losing the toss and getting down to bat first, RCB collected a challenging score of 174 runs, losing 6 wickets. The opponent DC’s task seemed easy then. But David Warner’s team could not chase this run either.
While chasing RCB’s run, DC’s top order collapsed once again. Warner and Co. could not turn around from that. In the end, DC scored 151 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Along with that, DC has played five matches in the tournament and has been defeated in all of them so far.
Scoring 209 runs with three fifties in four matches, DC captain Warner has been in great form since the start of the IPL. But Warner’s strike rate is only 116. However, there was an opportunity to increase the strike rate for him yesterday. The ideal venue for scoring quick runs is the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. But like every match, DC’s top order collapsed on the day as well.
Prithvi Shaw was run out in the first over of the innings. Mitchell Marsh, who joined the team after his wedding leave, was also dismissed for 0 runs. DC lost the wicket of Yash Dhull (1) in the third over.
DC lost 3 wickets and then scored just 2 runs. After such a start, skipper Warner’s attempt to score quick runs stalled. However, Warner chose to attack every time. But he could not stay on the wickets for long. Warner was dismissed for 19 runs off 13 balls by Vijaykumar Vyshak, the debutant pacer for RCB.
Losing 4 wickets for 30 runs, DC was on the edge of the abyss. From there, Manish Pandey took the team’s run past one hundred by playing an innings of 50 runs from 38 balls. There were 5 fours and 1 six. Also, Axar Patel scored 21 runs and Aman Hakim Khan made 18 runs. In the end, Kuldeep Yadav scored 7 off 6 balls and Anrich Nortje remained unbeaten on 23 runs off 14 balls.
In the end, DC’s innings stopped at 151 after losing 9 wickets. Vijaykumar Vyshak took the maximum number of 3 wickets for RCB. Besides, Mohammed Siraj took 2 wickets and Wayne Parnell, Harshal Patel, and Wanindu Hasaranga took one wicket each.
In the previous match at this venue, RCB lost even after scoring 212 runs. Before coming down to bat in another match yesterday, Virat Kohli and du Plessis must have had the memory of that match in mind. How many runs are safe on this pitch of small boundaries cannot be said with certainty. That’s why captain Du Plessis was trying to hit from the first ball of the innings.
He aimed to use the pace of the DC pacers to score quick runs in the power play. Mustafizur Rahman was in Du Plessis’s blasting line. In the second over of the innings, he left the crease and hit two boundaries. He continued to hit Axar Patel and Mitchell Marsh for fours and sixes. However, the RCB captain returned to the dressing room after scoring 22 runs off 16 balls while playing Marsh.
Mahipal Lomror and Glenn Maxwell played at Du Plessis’s pace. Lomror became Marsh’s second victim scoring 26 runs off 18 balls. Maxwell got out off Kuldeep Yadav for 26 playing 14 balls.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli played his natural game from the other end. He made his third fifty in this year’s IPL off 33 balls. After that, however, the innings was not long. He was caught out by Lalit Yadav after scoring 50 runs. There were 6 fours and 1 six in Kohli’s innings with a strike rate of 147. In the end, Shahbaz Ahmed took the score of RCB to 174. This all-rounder was unbeaten on 20 runs from 12 balls.
Mitchell Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav took the maximum number of 2 wickets each for DC. Tiger pacer Mustafiz remained wicketless with 41 runs in 3 overs. His economy of 13.70 was the highest among DC bowlers. In the previous match, Mustafiz took 1 wicket with 38 runs in 4 overs.
