Both the teams in today’s match started their campaign with defeats. But these two teams saw the opposite side of the coin when they played their second match. Both teams performed well despite losing the first match. But in this match, Los Angeles Knight Riders faced a big loss due to unprecedented batting failure against MI New York.

Chasing the target of 155 runs given by MI New York on Monday (May 17), Los Angeles Knight Riders were bowled out for 50 runs in just 13.5 overs. They’ve suffered their 2nd consecutive defeat by a huge margin of 105 runs. The Los Angeles Knight Riders are currently at the bottom of the standings. On the other hand, with this great win, MI New York has moved up to 2nd place in the points table.  

Through this match, Los Angeles Knight Riders set the record for the lowest total in a Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament. On the other hand, MI New York has become the first team to win by more than 100 runs margin in MLC.

Earlier, MI New York was not comfortable after winning the toss and batting first. They lost three wickets, scoring 43 runs in 6 overs of power play. Then Nicholas Pooran went down to bat and tried to take control of the team. But he failed to increase the run rate. As a result, at the end of 9 overs, the team’s score stood at 59 runs for 4 wickets.  

Captain Pollard also could not stay on the wicket for long. After scoring only 5 runs off 9 balls, he was bowled by Adam Zampa and returned to the dugout. After his departure, Tim David guided the team in the right direction. On the one hand, Pooran played firmly on the wicket, but on the other hand, David became devastated with the bat.

Pooran returned to the pavilion scoring 38 off 37 balls, with 1 four and 2 sixes. At one end, wickets were falling at regular intervals, but at the other end, David was playing aggressively. In the end, he left the field with an unbeaten 48 off 21 balls. He had an equal number of 4 fours and sixes in this stormy innings. Trent Boult remained unbeaten with 7 runs off 4 balls.

Adam Zampa, Ali Khan, and Corne Dry took the maximum number of 2 wickets each for Los Angeles Knight Riders. Besides, Lockie Ferguson took 1 wicket.  

In response, the Los Angeles Knight Riders stumbled badly coming down to bat. None of the team’s batsmen could settle on the wicket due to the aggressive bowling of the MI New York bowlers. On the 3rd ball of the innings, Martin Guptill returned to the dressing room for a zero run. Then pacer Kagiso Rabada struck twice in the 3rd over. He sent Rilee Rossouw (2) off the second ball of the over and Nitish Kumar (0) off the fifth ball.

At the end of 3 overs, the team lost 3 wickets and their score stood at 2 runs. The Los Angeles Knight Riders could not handle this initial collapse. As a result, they lost quick wickets while trying to speed up the run rate again and again. As a result, they could not return to the fight of the match. No other batsman could touch double-digit scores for the team except Unmukt Chand. He was dismissed for 26 runs off 26 balls, with 2 fours and 1 six.

All five bowlers picked up an equal number of wickets for MI New York. Nosthush Kenjige, Ehsan Adil, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, and Kieron Pollard took 2 wickets each. In addition, Tim David was selected as the player of the match for playing a devastating innings.
