New Zealand vs South Africa faced each other in the 7th warm-up match of the ICC World Cup. At the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, on October 2, the game between New Zealand and South Africa was called off due to a persistent shower of rain. Where New Zealand won by seven runs using the DLS system

 

Both cricketing nations will go to the round-robin stage of the quadrennial extravaganza without receiving the needed preparation due to the premature conclusion of the 7th ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up match.

 

For those unfamiliar with the game, this was New Zealand’s second straight victory in two exhibition games after they earlier defeated Pakistan. At Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, they successfully chased down the 346 mark with five wickets remaining in 43.4 overs.

 

On the other hand, rain ruined this South African team’s second consecutive warm-up game at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Their match against Afghanistan was called off three days ago without a ball being bowled.

 

On October 2, the New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bat first before the rains played spoilsport. With 50s from Devon Conway and Tom Latham, their batting team put on a great effort, hitting 321/6 in the stipulated 50 overs.

 

For them, Devon Conway was the highest run-taker. He took 78 runs off 73 balls by hitting 11 fours and 1 six. Also, he left the field because he was retd hurt. Apart from him, Tom Latham scored 52 runs off 56 balls. While he hit 4 fours and 1 six. By hitting 4 fours and 1 six Glenn Phillips made 43 runs off 40 balls.

 

Kane Williamson took 37 runs off 51 balls. Daryl Mitchell scored 25 runs off 16 balls. He also hit 3 fours and 1 six. Besides, Will Young made 12 runs, Mark Chapman made 20 runs off 20 balls, 14 runs were scored by James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner took 16 runs off 14 balls.  

 

For South Africa, 6 wickets were taken by Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi (each 3).

Rassie van der Dussen scored a quick-fire fifty to restart South Africa’s innings after they lost the wicket of Reeza Hendricks for zero during the run chase. Quinton de Kock was leading the run chase with 84 (12 fours and 1 six) not out off 89 balls when the scoreboard read 211/4 in 37 overs, but the constant onslaught of rain prevented him from leading his team to victory.

 

Besides, Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen made 51 runs off 56 balls with 9 fours. Captain Aiden Markram scored 13 runs off 13 balls. 39 runs were scored by Heinrich Klaasen. He hit 5 fours and 1 six in his 37-ball innings. In the end, David Miller was unbeaten at 18 runs off 26 balls.

 

For New Zealand, Trent Boult took 2 wickets. Besides, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi each took one wicket.
