New Zealand took the ODI series with one match in hand. The Blackcaps did not give Bangladesh any chance to fight at home. On this day, opener Anamul Haque was dismissed for 2 runs off 12 balls in Nelson. He punched the ball over Adam Milne. Kiwi captain Tom Latham took his catch at slip. He scored 43 runs in the first ODI. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto left the field after playing a wrong shot. The batter scored 6 runs off 9 balls.
Liton also went back on the power play. The batsman was out on the fourth ball of the tenth over. He scored 6 runs off 11 balls. Then Soumya and Towhid Hridoy batted the wheel of runs for Bangladesh. Both of them made a pair of 34 runs. But Soumya played a ball from Clarkson straight along the stumps, Hridoy (12) was just short of the non-strike boundary line, and Clarkson got a run out when he body-balled the ball.
Soumya picked up a half-century in the procession of wickets. He completed his half-century with 58 balls. At that time Rachin Ravindra gave up his catch to Josh Clarkson. In the end, Soumya formed a partnership with Tanjim Hasan Shakib (13 runs from 11 balls) and Rishad Hossain. But he could not finish the innings. He got out after scoring a personal 169 runs. In total, Bangladesh scored 291 runs with 1 ball remaining from 50 overs.
In reply to 292 runs, the Kiwis scored 61 runs without losing any wickets in the first 10 overs. After that, the openers Rachin Ravindra and Will Young continued to climb. However, Hasan sent Rachin to the dressing room before his half-century in the last ball of the 11th over. Rachin scored 45 runs off 33 balls and was caught at deep midwicket by Rishad Hossain.
Henry Nicholls came to the wicket after Rachin. Taking him with him, Young’s Run account was taken forward. New Zealand crossed the team century in the 17th over. Kiwi opener Young took half a century in that over. Young, on his way to a century, was dismissed for 84 runs. But he survived that journey with reviews.
But luck did not help the Kiwi opener. He had to leave the field before the century. Young returned with a catch in Hasan Mahmud’s hand off the ball of Hasan Mahmud at 32.5 overs after making a personal 89 runs. His innings was decorated with 8 fours and 2 sixes. After that, Nicholls returned very close to the century. He got out with 95 runs off 99 balls with 8 fours and 1 six. At 40.4 overs, Nicholls was caught by Rishad off Shoriful Islam.
After that, however, New Zealand did not have a problem to pull off the win. In the end, Tom Blundell and captain Tom Latham secured the win for the team. 36 runs came from the pair of the two. On this side, the Bangladeshi bowlers could not do their work on this day. Hasan got two wickets but it did not have much impact on the match. Miraz was wicketless with relatively good bowling. The anointed Rishad was also flawless. This legspinner gave 62 runs off 56 balls.
